Classics seekers repaint

Postby ptitvite » Tue Oct 24, 2006 8:56 am

Hi!

Being a father of a 6 months old baby :D , I do not have much time to kitbash nor I have the money to buy so many TF's like I used to :( .
I try to aim at cheaper lines other than the Masterpieces with sky high prices. When I saw that Classics line I was very pleased of the product and I probably will be spending my money on more of those as they come out. Anyway, I got 3 Classics Starscream from Kooltoys (and I will keep on buying from him) and repainted them to have my very own G1 season 1 seekers. Skywarp will be available only at Targets and we don't have that in Canada so... :?
Like every other TF to repaint, it's a pain in the A :x . To avoid paint chipping I had to use black or blue marker instead of paint. The results are not perfect but I will live with that. Overall, i'm pretty happy of how it came out. They transform ...with care so it's good for display and not for a kid. Thanks :)

And i'm sorry to hear about TFM's problems and hope everything ends up ok soon. I also love Transtopia so I would hate to see it close.

Looks great. What kind of marker did you use?

Is that your Devastator in the glass case? I miss that guy.

lol, i'm touched but not selling them. I'm not the best around here and others will do much better than I did. I did'nt spend much time on the small details but it took long enough to paint. I've seen the pics of Target Exclusive Skywarp...paint jobs kicks A.. He has great details, the only thing that bugs is that the purple plastic and paint are not the same tone.
BTW, all the black parts on Thundercracker were all colored with the black marker. As for Skywarp, black is mostly spray paint. Small areas that chipped were colored with marker. It does a great job. With the camera flash you can see flaws that otherwise you can't see.

Thanks :D Black marker was only use to cover up the paint chipping.
Primer: Autobody Master Sandable Primer
Black Paint: Excel 'Just Enough' Black spray paint
Blue Paint: Excel 'Just Enough' Planet Blue spray paint
Excel 'Craft' Silver Metallic spray paint
Folkart Mate Acrylic spray sealer
Sharpie permanent marker
Testors acrylic red
Everything listed is found at WalMart

And yep, that's Devastator you see in the glass case...still unfinished.. :?

I made Devastator in a rush...My girlfriend was 5 months pregnant and I had to make some major house improvments at the time...
I am improving him but nothing major. I prefer making a new one bigger using bigger construction vehicles...I need time.

These look really cool. Do you plan on adding embellishment to the wings - and did you take off the rubsigns or just paint over them?

Thanks
I don't know...but it would really improve the toy.
I don't know if G1 stickers would somehow fit these Classics wings...Would be interesting to verify.
And I removed the rubsigns...I prefer the real faction symbol or no symbol at all.

Thundercracker looks especially good. Skywarp's great too, but I think you picked the exact blue that fits him, IMO. Nicely done. :)

At first I thought I hated this mold. Thought it looked super wide/chunky. Turns out I just hate the guns. Slap some thinner weaponry on these guys and I love them.
till all are one.

Coolio. Are you actually gonna make them coneheads, or do you think they look as dumb as I do?

...and no cracks about how dumb I look. I know, alright..?

Well Instead of the nosecone being straight upwards on the head I've oppted with the Armada Thrust tilted back Conehead look so the face is still visable all i need to do is to get extra sets of wings and figure a way to attach them to the wing mount on the sides, Im thinking if i shave down some of the inner plastic on the mount and use a pin to perm attach the wings to the body and take off the tail assembly they look like they'll fit as they are pretty much the right size.

We all have opinions and I have to say that the Ramjet Classics prototype looks great. Its basically the same mold exept wings and jet nose that is shorter. The paint scheme looks amazing! He's on my wishlist :D

You do know that they are coming out with a Classics Ramjet which will be a ?Cone-head?. you might want to make the other ?cone-heads? out of that mold.

Actually, I just spotted the Classics Ramjet, and I must say, they've made it look a lot better than I'd've expected. I'm impressed. I still think the conehead look is pretty iffy, but a lot less so now.

They may look a bit ?iffy? to some, but that is the way they are supposed to look, even in the cartoons and comics.

As stupid as it sounds....Easy to find, Sharpie permanent marker. Fine pointe. I used black ink to cover up the white Bionicle ball joints on my Devastator Kitbash where paint would normally chip.

Ckeck it out here: http://www.sharpie.com/sanford/consumer ... ytip.jhtml

Supposed to look, you say? I don't remember the G1 toys looking like that.
Hmm. I'm wondering how well you'd be able to cast Starscream noses and heads to fit Ramjet bodies. That way you'd be able to do G1ish 2nd line seekers without having to get the extra Starscreams for heads...

Poop. I want stuff...

No I didn't... Well Sofar the only Seeker repaint im working on is Skywarp... Then Sunstorm, and Since Thundercracker is a target exclusive I'll see if I can get him there, but just incase I'll hold on too the rest. if anything i'll sell them later...

lol c'mon guys! We fell in love with a cartoon and played with the toys that did'nt look much like there cartoon counterparts. With these Classics, that's the closest we can get to the cartoon without spending hours on kitbashing. Well for Starscream anyway...Grimlock is far from what I would have imagined for a classics. I think it's worth to wait until Ramjet is available in stores. With Ramjet you can kitbash Dirge and Thrust and it may not be such a difficult task to kitbash Starscream into Ramjet (I doubt I would be up to this)....but I think it's not worth the trouble...
