I got a nice little package from Billy this Christmas packed with some neat little toys he had been rounding up on his many excursions to the Montreal area thrift stores. The package also came with a family Christmas card. His 1 year old lil baby girl is just about the cutest thing ever. :x

But anyway, the toys.
These little guys are called Commandrons. They were McDonalds Happy Meal toys from the 80's, made by Tomy. They were only available in Canada. They have hilariously simply 80's transformations and pull-back motors that make them zoom in vehicle mode, and walk in robot.

Image

Image

Now, you all may have noticed that I have a strong propensity for all things dumb, stupid, and silly, and these goofy toys hit every check box on that list. Many people collect many things, and most collector's collect things that are old. I love me a big modern robot toy chalked full of articulation and complexity, but I also really enjoy the design and aesthetic of "antique" toys.
I believe that it is important to have an understanding and appreciation for where things started, and where they came from, to better appreciate where we are now, and understand where we are going.
I also like dumb things that are fun.

I love the totes Mc80's face stickers on these guys.
Image

This one's robot mode is probably my favorite. So stupid. So funny.
Image
I DUNNO!

So thanks Billy! These guys are really neat, and welcome here in the 'Tron. They will have a good life on my G1 and Microman shelf chillin' 80's style. :D

Continuing on with the theme of dumb, stupid, and silly but I like it, let's take a look at that last little haul I got for my Bday at the end of November.

These guys.
Image

I don't care what any of you say. Backstop is AWESOME! Because he's dumb. My favorite of these three. I can't say I've ever seen a beast former transform like that, so at least that's original. And yeah he's ugly, but in a cute yoda kind of way. Love the weird asymmetry, and his head sculpt is cool.

Image

But his rhino mode is what really stands out.
Image

DEPLOY MEGA CAN OPENER!
Image

and because it's the Collect-O-Tron...
Image

Gawd Damnit I love me some Beast Wars!

Image

Drill bit here is great. Love his painted over translucency. Great Beast Era head sculpt. Just all around good at being all the cool fun things that Beast Wars toys are.

Image

Open up and say ah. AGHHHHHHHHH!
Image

Now actually this guy is my least favorite of this trio. He has a cool head sculpt, and all the charm of a Cybertron Scout, but honestly I've seen this transformation handled a lot better on Beast Wars toys.

Image

Shoulders done this way always bug me (PRID Bee), and the forearms are just bad, but I'm not mad I got him. Just not as good as I had hoped.

I do love armored lizard mode though.
Image

Like I mentioned earlier though, Backstop and Wreckloose complete my Cybertron collection, and for that I am very happy. It feels neat to have completed a goal. Or maybe I'm a little sad it's over. There are a few repaints out there that would be fun to have, but... we'll see.

Something That's Not Dumb, Stupid, or SIlly

FansProject WB008 Trinix Alpha

HOLY CRAP! Where do I start? This toy is AMAZEFACE! It's like Takara Dia-Battles made it with a Cybertron toy and had three little weird babies. This is one of the most solidly built figures I've bought in a long time. The plastic is wonderful. So heavy and sturdy. Anybody familiar with the plastic Playmobil uses? It's that good. Survive-the-play-of-a-preschooler good. Oh and his ratchets could wake a hibernating bear.

But aside from the construction, the design and engineering is also fantastic. So this is FansProject's homage to Diaclone Diabattles. It's a pretty loose homage in that it also kind of homages Powermasters too. all that added up equals a 3P toy that, in the end is almost just an original idea. And that's what I like most about it. It doesn't serve to fill a hole in my collection, or slavishly rip off some preexisting TF character. Instead it just becomes a really good robot toy.

Love this head sculpt.
Image

Now robot shots of super cool awesome extra roboty action poses!
Image

Image

Pound the ground! 'Cause I never pound the ground.
Image

Image

Here he is with his cousin. BTW he's huge! Diabattles isn't really that big but Trinix is about a half inch shorter than the currant TF Leader toys.
Image
You can see how he starts to homage Dia-B, but aesthetically he pulls a little harder from the OG Diaclone toy.

Image

Now say hello to his little friends.
Image
So what are they? Engines? Super upgrade power units? Varying skill set enhancing brain moduals? I dunno, but I'll figure it out.

Image
They are pretty neat little guys. They share the same transformation, but are retooled enough to be totally different dudes.

ImageBalthasar, Melchior, and Gasper
So in a review I watched, I think I remember that they were named after the Three Kings of Orient. You know from the Holly Bibble? I'm not sure where the reviewer got that because nowhere on the box or instructions does it say that. I like it though. 'Cause those are some great names!

ALT MODES!
ImageI freaking love a futuristic sci-fi motortrike. Everytime!

Image
Col' lampin'!

ImageOh! Do you like my guns?

All three are really fun little vehicles. Each one has a really nice and different way of securing the pilot into their seat. They all tab together really well, and make some solid little battle rollers that are fun to zoom-zoom pew-pew all over the place.

Image

Image

Did I mention how nice the chrome on him is? They chromed over plastic that has a nice little texture to it, that I'm sure will help the chrome stay on.
I'm really excited for this guy. I just love his design and he's a ton-o-fun.
I love this play pattern.

To any of you more 3P savoy O-Tron subscribers: Are all FansProjects toys this good? I've always liked there designs. I just couldn't, for whatever reason, pull the trigger on buying any.
This could be the beginning of a deep dark rabbit hole for me. He's not the only one in this Powermaster-esque Warbot series either. The others look pretty dope pants too.

Dumb, stupid, and silly? This thread sure is for me! :-P

Well that thing looks pretty dope. Never have been a huge fan of Transformer-esc toys that are so many colorz though (ala Starsaber).

If you want to go 3rd Party, I'd say for a combiner ToyWorld's "Constructor" could be an awesome one. He's one I've been eying for a while now, and NOW they have all six of them together with the extra G1 parts AND it's 130 USD less right now!

https://tfsource.com/products/view/product_id/12918/

This thing just beats the crap out of the CW design until there is no crap left to keep him together. :-P

All the updates all the head spinning.

Día war robot guy looks boss and a ton of fun gymnastics.

Soundwave looks good with his minions and you know I'm a sucker for minions. I've spotted SW a few times at retail with the most recent being today. I wish I had a spot for him, but I don't. Also like the fool I am I've already gathered all the tabletbots. :BANG_HEAD: oh well, maybe his mold mate will go on sale one day. I can justify buying Blaster and I'd like to experience the and give all my TMs a cool place to hang out.

Great pics, much fun ;)^ :APPLAUSE:

I don't like their aesthetic style and their new scale.

Hey Sigi, Sill, and Bee! What up Carebear!

I have four of the five Toyworld Dinobots and they are all kinds of super dope badassitude! Aesthetic is cool and construction is solid. Some day I'll finally get their Grimlok, so I can combine the **** out of them.

But if I had to compare with what I have on hand, FansProject SMOKES ToyWorld.

Now go talk about TW Devy in the TW Devy thread.

Cobotron! Long time no see buddy!

I approve of Cowboytron. Saw it in the comments section when reading the front page on vacation occasionally, and I recognized the style of speaking as you. I approve of the temporary name.

No more Dr. Va'al? That makes me sad.

I actually thought of you today: was in Epcot, saw some Gundams, thought of you for some reason, almost bought one, but made a lightsaber instead.

Nice Christmas haul buddy!

Fruticus came from Ross for 34 bucks but nicely careoftheone via Loooooosiana. He also shoved that little Loyal Subjects Slag in there. Never had any of those. Love it! Thanks buddy!
The rest I picked up runnin' all over town yesterday. Haven't had time to open any yet.

Also had a house guest stop through on his way to Canada. Didn't think I needed one of my own. Things change.

Not to worry Autobots. Just passing through.

First: Build a droid and build a lightsaber are so awesome! Love that they had the Kylo Ren crossblades. And I love astromechs (R2 and BB8 are my favorite Star Wars characters)

Pacific Rim: great movie, and I think you will be really impressed when you watch it!

Now, as for your haul: Springload! I'm glad you picked him up! And some Liokaiser in there for a stop over along with some pretty nice figures of all size classes through several lines. I don't think there is a bad toy in those ranks Cobro!
I'm looking for parts, Help Me Out Please!
