Oh man, I'm on the fence. I am debating whether or not to wait for the G2 in the box set. But, I'm not 100% sold on the sets. I have already been tempted by the single release in stores.

OH KURONA! I don't no if I'm strong enough!!!!!!!!

What toys from the boxsets do you like? While i know it would be an optimus overload, I would have preferred Magnus Prime to be in the same boxset as Voyager Optimus.

G2 Prime, the clones, Metal Hawk (can't remember everyone off the top of my head)
I'd be more excited for Magnus P if we knew for sure God Bomber was coming, but PMOP is good enough.
Don't really need another Six shot either.

Who's willing to bet Takara will release the clones in two packs somewhere down the line?

Weird, innit? Just a few months ago or so I would've been tired of Primes but now I'm all "just give me the Optimuses please"

Gonna chime in here for a minute. I'm excited for pretty much everything except Tidal Wave, Thunderwing, and the clones, but I'm still fine with all of them anyway.

Yeah, Tidal Wave is the one i am least excited for, followed by Quickswitch and then nautica.

I thoght we were past the "repaints for the sake of them" phase (like shockwave into air raid or BB BB into Hotshot or Ultra Magnus into roadbuster or Offroad into Ironhide or Cybertron Scourge into Trypticon or Cybertron LeoBreaker into Leo Prime) where repaints now made the most of a mold instead and you didnt have a character given another characters deco but instead that redeco really became the classics interpretation of a character. Am I making sense? Like CW Silverbolt into Cyclonus and RTS Tracks into Gen Wheeljack and Universe Inferno into RTS Grappel. Those are examples of the retool/redeco owning that mold just as much as the original. They feel like a good take on the character for your collection, like we dont have to wait for a better one to come along, we can settle with this.

But that Tidal Wave feels way more like a placeholder until something else comes along. The reason I dont mention nautica or Metal Hawk is because they are the right scale and have a more niche driven popularity (aka, I doubt we will get another nautica in the near future). But Tidal Wave is a popular character with a distinctive toy and scale. This reminds me a lot of that Cubertron Scourge into Trypticon example, a repaint for the sake of it. Its not the right scale and who knows where it goes in your collection, but its a thing and it comes with your boxset whether you like it or not.

So yeah, not excited for Tidal Wave, he feels like a step back with this whole repaint business.

And like wtf, he wont even scale with the other armada gen toys we have.

Cobotron wrote:

To be honest, I would be more surprised if they dont do that.

Well, considering we only have three of those and one is amazingly bigger and out-of-scale than the other two... we weren't exactly doing well on that front anyway.

Not like Armada's animation was consistent with Tidal Wave's size either, so it kind of works out here

I agree, it just feels all very lame for reinterpretations of armada. At least universe hotshot scales with armada starscream.

Since we're sharing, Here are my opinions on the 10 boxset figures.

Hell Yeah: Magnus Prime

Pretty Frikkin' Cool: Metalhawk, Thunderwing, Voyager Prime

Eh, alright: Rodimus Prime, Nautica, Fastlane

Lame: Quickswitch, Pounce, Tidal Wave

Can you elaborate on why ounce is lame please?

The rest I understand

Also, just curious but is Magnus Prime awesome mainly because its us getting that retool and instead while we are spending the same amount of money as that mold costs to import, we are getting a whole boxset out of it?

Thats why I find it cool.

Well, I can elaborate, but I think I will give solid opinions on all 10, just in case!

Magnus Prime: was interested in PM Prime, but then came the repaint rumor for a boxset that involved him in blue colors. Decided to wait and see. As a result, I will get the takara tooling and potentially a godbomber at some point in time too! the mold is really good as Magnus so I look forward to having it again but almost completely retooled. Plus, a future godbomber would make this a bomb set!

Metalhawk: loved the IDW character, and this figure is using a great mold, and the colors are kickass! Great looking figure, and one that I have some degree of attachment to.

Thunderwing: I have him in no way, but the apocalypse character is really cool to me. Plus, he's diecast! It is a lost art. So many hot wheels cars and Thomas trains I have are diecast, so I have a special attachment to the metal. Plus, he looks go no matter what.

Voyager Prime: Was going to pass the retail release up and just get Octone, but this version is my favorite colors wise. I love black and red, so this is perfect. Plus, I can just ignore the plane mode, and the figure is kickass once more.

Rodimus Prime: I love the diecast and the paint, but the face looks a bit.. sad. Yeah, I know it's cause it's supposed to be his aged face, but I don't really like the face sculpt that much. Although, he can man Hot Rods runs, or Firedrive can while this guy controls thing up top.

Fastlane: looks decent, but he looks pretty flimsy and a bit too simple for my liking. might be more excited once I get him in hand.

Nautica: love the character, longing for a toy. Just wish it was better.

Quickswitch: the mold is so nearly good, but it falls short enough that it disappoints me. And all they do is retool the helmet and titan master. Lame. that figure deserves so much more.

Tidal Wave: a character that Nick Roche made me like, and he looks so cool in the comics plus his original toy. Again, another where the mold just doesn't work and do him justice. At least they are't recognizing the "plane" mode on him. that thing is crap.

Pounce: he just looks so flimsy. He doesn't look any good to me. The beast legs are too skinny and skimpy and the whole beast mode itself doesn't look any good.

Picked up Twinferno today, he's great, sans the head, but now Fangry finally has a body. I like him in more of a doofy, lovable, idiot sort of way. His beast mode is cool, but I wasn't expecting the additional beast mode thigh articulation, I think the extra parts are wasted there.

I had to grab him to remind myself of the articulation you're talking about. My first thought was, maybe it's there more for the robot foot, but it doesn't add much there either. I would gladly trade that for some wrist swivel.

He is a lovable idiot... with super dangerous Shao Lin dragon hands! :michaelbay:
I kinda love his dumb cop shades. But I would argue that the Tm is one of the coolest. I mean, Battle Beasts! Hellz YEAH!

I'll have to slap Fangry on there and give it a try.

I'm actually surprised and glad for all the love he's been getting. I figured he was gonna be the one everyone hated on.

I kinda love TWINFERNO -- never had his G1 incarnation but I can tell he's an ode to the original. Sure, his dragon-arms could use a bit more articulation but he's still fairly imposing, dumb cop shades and all. 8-)

Twinferno's face sculpt is one of my favorite things about him and played a big part in purchasing the robo turduckhen. On the flipside, the hidden Battle Beast was one of the other contributing factors. One of my favorite things about the whole package is how far removed his sexy robot mode is from his beast mode. Other than the muppet hands it's really hard to tell what he turns into. Once he is transformed it's still really hard to tell what he transforms into

You guys are talking about the splay action with his dragon legs? I didn't get that either. Even in my fan mode spaceship nonsense headcanon I don't use that feature. I do use his dragon legs as landing gear though ;)^

I thought he would be hated on too due to his loose head, very boxy chest, underbite dragon heads, lack of wrist swivel (which would really help when your head are also dragon heads) odd and weak tabbing and not the greatest stability in dragon mode.
He isnt one of my favourites but I do see the charm.

Honestly, his tm was the one thing holding me back from him, it's soooo underpainted, and - as with defensor - the dumb cop shades weren't helping his case, the tm is cool in its uniqueness, but, I knew that if I was going to get him, his head would be the first thing that goes |:|

Bodzy, I just learned this very recently. I always knew Battle Beasts were made by Takara, and thought they were some how the precursor to Beast Wars. But, they actually originated in an episode of the Japanese Headmasters cartoon. Maybe you already knew that. I've never watched the show, but I found that pretty cool.

I loved BBs when I was a kid. Especially that rabbit in that pic. Also loved the stag. They were little and fun and could easily be smuggled to and from school.
Plus they had a great aesthetic only Takara could muster.

Unfortunatley my brother hi-jacked them all from the attic for his collection. :(

Bee, your walking a thin line right now. /:)
