So Jetfire, or Skyfire, was originally a Bandai product right?

Yes, and he was a special case because his animation model and name was changed because of copyright. Aside from Shockwave, Omega Supreme and Sky Lynx (the ones not owned by Bandai), he was the only one out of the "borrowed molds" (molds not owned by either Takara or Hasbro) to make into the cartoon, sorta.

Both Sky Lynx and Omega Supreme were property of Tomy, the design and production was outsourced. Because of the TakaraTomy merger, Takara was able to reissue these two toys since they're now accessible via the Tomy part of the company.

And the toys were originally by Popy, a part of Bandai and the main force behind the "Chogokin" (Super Alloy) line, which features toys with a good percentage of die cast metal. All three Voltrons (Lion, Vehicle and Gladiator) were part of that line, and were called this in Japan: GoLion, Dairugger XV and Albegas. Note that series are not connected in any way in Japan.

That explains the origins of Matchbox's Voltron toys, but what about the other line? I think Playmates released them. Were they made just for the US or did they originate in Japan, too? This is the line with the action figures and the less impressive lion Voltron toy, which was completely plastic if I recall. The action figures (about the size of Star Wars or GI Joe figures) weren't to proper scale with the lions, but they could fit inside them.

Yeah, Matchbox released both Voltron and the first run of Macross toys other than the original Takatou 1/55 scale Valkyrie jets. In fact the first run of 1984 Jetfire had the actual Macross/UN Spacy logo on the left or right wing. They were later removed in the 1985 run of Jetfire. Though I can't confirm if the first run was in '84 but early '85. My cousin still has his with the logo and he kept it after almost selling one at a garage sale.

I know that I should probably start this in another forum, but I would to see a Transformers cross-over, team-up with Gundam, Robotech, Voltron, Super Sentai/Power Rangers, etc.

I know I started this post, thread a while ago now, but overall, Bandai did have some involvement in the Transformers franchise right? Does Transformers owe some of it's thanks to Bandai?

Bandai (specifically Popynica and currently PLEX) was a pioneer in overall robot toy design, so it's not just Transformers, it's the whole industry.

I've never been a fan of Power Rangers but I did watch Power Rrangers in Space. It seemed less childish to me than previous incarnations, plus Astronoma!!!

That series had a rather enjoyable cross over with the usually terrible, but strangely compelling Ninja Turtles: Mutation series.

On topic: Actionmaster Treadshot is rumoured to be inspired by the Machine Robo Gun Magnum Robo, a personal grail. Once passed up a chance to get it reasonably cheap on Ebay. Don't ask me why.

Just licensed merchandise. And it was TakaraTomy had provided the license for Bandai's products.

i'm back people for the first time in a while, well learned some facts and history when I attended BotCon 2011 about a month and a half ago, that Jetfire(Skyfire) was originally made by a Japanese company called Takatoku Toys, when they went Bankrupt in the 1980's, Bandai purchased their rights and molds, desigins of the figures, so pretty much Bandai did not originally make Jetfire, or Skyfire, he is called either one, but they now own the rights to him, but are there any Transformers toys, products, etc., that are Bandai originals in which now Hasbro or Takara-Tomy now owns the rights too?
