When I see photos of huge collections posted here, the first thing that runs through my mind is, "My God, how much did that cost?" Surely if you're one of the fans who can tout all the exclusives, combiners and maybe a Fortress Maximus or two - MISB no less - you've clearly spent more money on them that you're willing to admit. Because if you stop to think about it, all that hard-earned cash could easily have been diverted to a new car, a better house, or maybe an exotic family vacation. What's preventing you from living that life of luxury is your unhealthy obsession with toy robots. Do you ever regret having spent so much on them?

Not a cent. I get too much enjoyment from this hobby to regret it.

Granted there are times when I've spent more than I should, and if I still had all the money I dropped on my collection I could've bought a house years ago as apose to being in the market now...

But in the long run, if I had the house, what would I fill it with?

And to one up that, I know alot of people who've pinched every penny and are miserable. Me, I have what I enjoy and am less miserable

I have a limit on what i will buy. Sure I would love some MISB original G1 but reissues are more affordable.If I cant afford something I wont charge it, Ill just wait. I do want other things in life liek a house, and in SoCali you need all the extra money you can get.

I regret it. When I think of all the money I've spent on crap over the years, I just know I could have my own house by now if I'd saved it.

I don't regret it. I have a new house (built in 2006) and a new 2007 Outlook. I still buy whatever I want.

Sorry boss, but having the huge collection probably means people can take the vacations, have the nice places to live, and have nice cars.

sometimes, when I need money lol.... I regret buyign those shitting cybertron figures, which was only two but waste of 20 bucks.

Mostly yeah. Could have used that money better, or gotten something for my car, which I'd surely enjoy more. And enough so that I'm thinking of getting rid of these space takers here before christmas.

But I do love to play with and hold them in my hands for a few days after opening them. After that, they just sit and collect dust. It's more of the fun of opening and playing with them then it is posessing them long term for me.

Not, really. At the times I really bought G1 and other figures I had an excess of disposable income. Feast or famine. Now as a law student I am taking a hiatus from buying everything under the sun but after I graduate and take care of loans I will reload on all that I missed. In the grand scheme of things G1 toys depreciate a lot less than a new car. That said a a few thousand never killed anyone.

Sometimes, but I only really regret buying a couple of figures - nothing too expensive.

I'm a very careful buyer. I've never bought a TF on impulse, so I'm happy with just about everything I buy. My collection is large, but only because it's been growing steadily over the last 15 years. I'm quite proud of it now, and I don't think I'll ever regret my collection as a whole.

Eh, sometimes. I think I could have diverted all the funds into my 401(k) or into a college fund for my kids. But it usually doesn't bother me, as we do just fine, even with my obsess... er, hobby.

I didn't finish college(twice), but I have a pretty good career, go on nice vactions, live in places that are constantly improving and so on...

But I don't think that goes for most people who drop every penny on their collection with out planning ahead. Still, if you focus on your professional life, you can pay for your personal life!

Believe me, I know plenty of people my same age who came up with way more advantages who just decided to dwell on today's fun, and are still living with mom and saying "it's not fair" cause I have what I have, and am ever improving on it.

To which I say tough(and this isn't towards people that took school seriously) but while you where screwing around looking into which frat offered the best chance of keg stand marathons, I was paving my way from scratch. You don't even wanna know some of the jobs I had. But again, while they're waiting tables with bachalors and what not, I was teaching classes. To this day I have tons of people working under me saying "It's not fair, I'm educated". Again, that may be, but your not experienced in much more than packing a bong, and maybe if you stopped that some of these rolls would reverse

But you know, ya gotta do what ya gotta do, and if you keep your eyes on the prize, ain't no reason why you can't have it all!?!

I have the money to do both things. Like Punch, I went to college for a reason. I earn enough to cover myself and put some away.

Besides, I know my collection is still worth something if I wanted to sell it. A car devalues the longer you own it. In the end, all you have left of a vacation are the memories and the photographs. My collection is here anytime I want it, and if I had to sell it I could get all the money back.

The only thing I might feel regret is if something happened to it, such as a natural disaster, fire, or burglary. But I don't think that feeling would be regret if one of those things happened. I have more important things I could lose than my Transformers, so if one of those things happened and only my Transformers were lost, I would not feel regret. I'd be thankful that nothing worse happened. They are, after all, merely material possessons with the sole purpose of entertaining the whims of a madman.

i'd rather collect transformers rather then trading cards

Regret overall? No.
Regret a figure here and there? Yes.

I have no problems with my collecting, in fact, I love it. I own a Wii and haven't purchased a single disc for it and just use the Virtual Console games because I'd rather spend my money on the figures. (Although I will buy a game once their prices drop a tad, and something of interest actually is worth my money.)

I regret paying $165.00 for a G1 MISB Prowl back in 2000 and I still to this day kick myself for ever doing so. It's so frivolous and disgusting that it just kills braincells in my head just to think about it. (Okay, not literally, but it bothers me enough that it could, and I don't even collect G1 anymore!)

I'm gonna be P.O.ed if my Masterpiece Starscream breaks, and I'll have to replace him (maybe) but I don't regret buying him from the getgo.

It's an addiction (to a certain extent) but I don't ask for much, so I figure I might as well get something I enjoy.

Regret? Only when I don't know when to stop.

Well said, and AMEN!

Mentioning tradgety it's a huge factor in collecting anything, but may I suggest making the most of potential tragedy and getting renters insurance.

$300 a year has me good for $200,000. I selected Fire, Theft, and Flood, as my damage coverage deductables. Since my collection is ever expanding, each time I move or every 2 years(which ever comes first) I have my entire living space re-evaluated.

It's just good sense, when your thousands into anything.

If anything I regret not starting my collection earlier... I only got back into the toys after the movie came out..

I don't have a house, yet. but We do own almost 8 acres of land. Fully paid off. But we also don't have things like cars, tv and cellphones.

So I got toys.

Oh, sorry. I don't have it anymore. Haven't had it since 2000/2001 when I sold my entire G1/G2 collection. All of it.

I regret NOTHING!!!

I've spent 3k in TF's since July ... easily.

I just moved in to a new house last week.

Regret in this form is actually stupidity.

I'm not saying that anyone who prioritises TF's over a house is stupid. One can do what they wish. Just don't look back and regret it, that's just stupid!

Not a penny. All of it goes towards something that makes me happy, and transformers truly do.



I will have exactly the same sentiment 5o years from now, when I live in a house on the beach.
