Hmmmm.... Indeed! I completely agree Cyberpath, Takara Tomy has been M.I.A. on the Masterpiece Megatron front..

Initial Impressions:

I do quite like this design. It has a very G-1 Blocky IDW comics look to him, and reminds me allot of how the proportions are on Hegemon with all the Blockiness. The inner legs look great very cartoonish/comics-ish. I also like the additional face sculpt with an action like grimace. Very cool.

The aesthetics of the design of the arms, and chest are quite close to the comic model, and a bit more like the cartoon design as well.

Given this is the first New Masterpiece class "Not" Megatron since the release of Apollyon, and the Original MP-05, it is a welcomed addition to the OPTIONS we are getting out there between the 3rd party and the official releases. I do like the addition of a G-1 Dark Star saber in the figure's armory accessories. So it's an energy sword styled like the original G-1 Toy sword in shape, but built more like the Dark Star Saber swords seen in games Like the Transformers Devastation, and various other comic appearances of the blade.

I wonder if they gave this Megs an Open the chest Feature that I want to be included in a Masterpiece figure??

I mean look if you are going to give us a Masterpiece Megatron it should include at the very minimum an Open chest Gimmick and the heart of Cybertron

I mean, Optimus Prime has an open chest.. His Matrix feature. Beyond the Movie and several moments in season 3, there really is no other feature of that in the classic series, so the justification for the Pistol used by Megatron to shoot Prime was also a one time shown thing, so the same should be done for a True Takara Masterpiece Megatron to include the open chest feature panel to any future release.. if nothing else, it would be cool to pose a Megatron being worked on like Prime can do with his trailer.

reflector was supposed to be the repair bots for the Decepticons.. Much Like Ratchet..

Anyhow, I think this figure is pretty nice looking. The back pack is a bit big, and the barrel on the back is quite large proportionally to the chest scale, but they did remedy the legs with a different take on the trigger placement. I know allot of people who are MP-10 collectors, who have multiple versions of Optimus Prime. I think that I may have by the time Takara comes out with an Official Megatron, I may own already 4 versions by then..

1. Apollyon 2nd Batch Release (own)
2. Megatron MP-05 (own)
3. Gladius Dark Emperor-Triple Changer Megatron (plan to get!)
4. DX9 D09 Mightron (still deciding, but I may end up getting him!)

I definitely see this as being a good addition to my collection..

if you want a more blocky Megatron, this one certainly has the look..

And because It was needed, here is a comparison to Apollyon:

I like this bot, But still for me, for now, Apollyon is my Ultimate Megatron figure..

Takara Tomy, Make toys, Fans Toys, etc.. Apollyon is the Megatron figure to beat..

This is cool, looks pretty pose-able.. very very very Blocky!!

Overall looks pretty nice, doesn't have that style that Apollyon has, but has it's own very G-1 blockiness that I know some people just love to death. I think his legs are great, and his back pack is a bit larger for my tastes, but tolerable non-the-less. I think yea.. I like it!

But it's not the definitive Megatron Masterpiece, but it is a Good very Good Try..

I MAY have to get him!!

What is the MSRP? How much will this be??

You know what's great about Mightron? His legs. That inner kibble on Apollyon drives me nuts! I performed the leg fix you suggested skywarp-2, and while it is better, I wish it wasn't there in the first place :lol:

AND don't get me started on the pistol grip outer leg kibble. Screws that fall out?! Come on..

Also, where were these feet when they made Tyrant?! Nice and flat ;)^

And you know what? Why hasn't anyone given us a fully opening chest? X-Transbots had the right idea, it would've been nice to be the whole front instead of a little panel though.

My hip tabs on Apollyon are separating. Looks like I'll have to re-polish them.

I think Mightron is swaying me. I really don't know why I passed on Tyrant (other than Abaddon on the horizon). I like Despotron too. I should buy all of them. Why not. Just throw my money away.

And then there's Gladius.

Jeez.

I wanted to recreate that scene from Microbots, but Hook is currently serving as Devastator's shoulders.

Could be, although I feel that if they could "throw the design" of MP5 together as quickly as they did they should have something ready by now, considering it has been 6+ years :lol:

I think that may be part of that large backpack that MAY hinder waist swivel! May. Or they forgot to transform it properly as I tend to do frequently when I'm happy I got a pose out of a figure ;)^

LMAO!! Yea How hard is it to do an Opening Torso that swings to the side and has a molded interior for a plastic Heart of Cybertron to be placed in?? I mean yes, At least Apollyon XTB did their best to try to give a nod to that, but come on people.. if we can give Optimus Prime a masterpiece interior chest with a matrix, then why not an interior chest for the heart of cybertron, that made Megatron invincible!! (until they shrunk autobots down and sent them into his chest to disable it..)

I feel your pain on the leg kibble for Apollyon.. and I was waiting for your reply on how the leg packing turned out. It's nice to know your worked out well too. It looks better, but you are right, it could be done differently. I think from the arms of Apollyon, and the majority of the body down to the legs, if they switched the feet from Mightron, and added an opening chest, then someone would struck Gold, if they were able to design it that way. As it stands, we get Mightron which to me looks passable.. but not the best representation to date. There's just something off about the figure I can't quite place my finger on..

With Apollyon, the way the body is styled reminds me much more of the Transformers Devastation Megatron then anything else, and I don't mind that! But as for a good G-1 with all the bells and whistles of Apollyon and I mean Helmet, Muzzle, Stock, energon saber movie sword, Energon Mace, Clone Control helmet, opening chest, and Blitzwing's pistol, and a repositioning arm canon feature..

Those things have to be part of any full Masterpiece figure. XTB has raised the bar, and TT or even MT with their offerings have to at least be on par that way, or they will just be let downs

With Mightron, it only comes with the accessories shown, but is only 100.00 MSRP so, there is a trade off there that could be great for those who need a Megs, but don't have the money to get Apollyon.. this could work..

But it's not perfect.. and I keep saying and agree with you.. MEGATRON NEEDS AN OPENING CHEST FEATURE to be a proper Master Piece.. yes, it was one episode.. But it makes him that much more akin to Optimus Prime in terms of Quality.. and Quality is what matters in a Master Piece. ;)^

Well, aside from that backpack, unless there's some fundamental flaw with this, Apollyon might as well be obsolete between this and Despotron coming out.

That is shockingly impressive. But I don't think I like his upper arms, and does anyone else think he's just slightly to tall? :-?

He'd be great for anyone who wanted a Megatron and missed Appy.

I don't think he's too tall, especially in the comparison shot with him and Tyrant. He ends up being the same height as MP10 Optimus. If his transformation is smoother than Apollyon's (even with the backpack) he may be worth it. I can transform Apollyon, I just don't like it.

The fact of the matter is, we won't get an official Walther P-38 until Takara does another one. Bold Forms seems to be a PK380 and Mightron/Despotron/Apollyon are close but not quite on the P-38 front (with Apollyon being the closest by a bunch).

I'm not much of a third-party collector, but I might pick up this one. I like the blocky aesthetic, as well as the lack of kibble on the legs. The transformation also looks considerably more solid and less fiddly than MP-05 or Apollyon, and with fewer tiny, breakable parts. The lower legs are a bit chunky, but that's not a deal breaker.

I like this figure's blocky arms, and I like the price point at 100.00 with no extensions for the gun mode, but I am having problems with the way the knees bend, and the lack of the knee shin guards. I think the design could be tweaked a bit.. I did a digibash below. Also the Waist section lining seems a bit thick for the horizontal lines.. so I thinned them out a bit.

On the inner legs, they could have a panel that opens inside the legs, that can fold over on the shins to give it a bit more of the look that Apollyon has, and the animation model. the inner panels could open and the shin cover spin around, and plug into the tabs on one leg and the hole tabs on the other side.

I think the back pack and barrel seems a bit short on the back, and the pack is peaking up on the backside (mistransformation?) behind the head...

I think the hip skirts are my biggest bother. that and the leg shins..

I can live with the back pack, tho I think some extra little engineering things could have been done.. I think I may get this..

But I still (even with the leg Kibble) prefer Apollyon as my definitive Megatron...

I think he has more of a cartoon Megatron aesthetic myself, with the blockiness and such in robit mode (which I prefer).
