I love my CW Megatron, but this will definitely make him pop a bit more. I'm in. *Pre-orders*

I'm surprised. When people usually cry "pricetag!" so far no complaints. I'm a little taken aback by adding $40+ USD to my already $60 CAD Megatron. Even if my paycheques were better, I think the cost of this set would leave a bad taste in my mouth.
I mean, am I whining or is this warranted? I can't tell

That's a good question. Maybe as it gets closer we will get more info. Not a deal breaker for me, the outside of his legs already have a surprisingly "pistol grip" texture to them.Tsutsukakushi wrote:Noticed the DX9, black lower legs covers are not listed for sale in this pic or any of the pre order listings from sites.
Are the lower legs covers part of this kit or another kit?

I'm not too worried about it, I saved a bunch when I bought him (had a $40 TRU reward) so this brings me back to evenshajaki wrote:I'm surprised. Well, the cannon looks fine. And I don't plan on displaying him in tank mode, anyway. So I'm still on for this.

Nope. I'll just take the cannon, you can keep the extremely dumb looking shoes that just sit on top of the vehicle mode.

I'm glad the parts translate into something on the alt mode. I wonder if the top boots have any mounting points for the guns that come with Megatron, that would make it a pretty serious mobile assault tank!shajaki wrote:LACKLUSTER'D

Same, here. It's nice they go somewhere, but I'm in it for the robot mode upgrade, which this looks to do.

I swear I saw a picture from this set that showed that the gun barrel or another component turns into what looked like Shockwave. I'm I imagining things or was it a different up-grade kit?

Hey isnt the combined price still like $50 cheaper than x-transbots Apoyllon ? I dont see anything to complain about. Youre saving $50 for being ok with the tank mode but youre still getting that iconic G1 cartoon accuracy in robot mode. Thats a win win !

Yes, but at the expense of partsforming and a hideously ugly mass of parts cluttering up the otherwise-excellent tank mode if you don't put 25% of the figure to one side in vehicle mode. CW Megatron looks G1 enough as it is anyway, and the only reason I probably won't get him is his size. Even then I might get him as a standalone figure, or to pair with one of the really good Leader OPs (like Cybertron Optimus, ROTF Leader Optimus etc...).

There's nothing "excellent" about G1 Megatron being a tank in my personal opinion. I say save the tank for G2.
But I gotta ask, why the one-man crusade against partsforming?

My argument would be that parts integration creates over complex, delicate transformations that raise engineering costs sky high. It also creates eyesores with extra kibble like UT Provider's pyramid jet tail. Back in the 80's I kept all my extra parts organized in a shoe box. Ive since upgraded to a more sophisticated multi-level parts storage system. For only 20 bucks a piece at Home Depot it will solve all your parts storage dilemmas at an affordable price.

This is no longer the 80s. Toy engineering has marched on. Partsforming is a lazy cop-out for toy designers who can't be bothered to engineer something to transform properly. To a minor degree it's acceptable (with weapons, accessories etc, so long as they store in both modes) but with parts of the actual robot (like the feet)? Nope. That's just lazy and incredibly lame.
As for the "MEGATRON SHOULD BE A GUN NOT A TANK" argument, Megatron being a pistol was incredibly stupid back then and it's incredibly stupid now. A tank is just better, period.

Personally I prefer parts-forming most of the time. I appreciate the effort by the designers, but they usually fall short or feel forced. I didn't mind parts-forming when I was a kid and I don't mind it now

I gotta respectfully disagree on the parts forming. While Im not opposed to modern engineering and innovation, a figure should not be a puzzle and take an hour to transform. You once stated that the only 3rd party figure you own is FP Bruticus. If you ever decide to take the plunge into current 3rd party offerings, you would see they are a lot more cumbersome and that takes the fun out of transforming them. There are some things that are better left to the imagination. Where all those parts hide in robot mode is one of them. Mass shifting is another. Of course this stance comes from being a die hard supporter of the G1 cartoon who actually lived through it in the 80’s when it was current, not vintage.
As far as Megatron being a tank, I can only say this. I was around before the days of orange plugs and brightly colored nerf guns. I still own the same G1 Megatron my folks got me for Christmas back in 1985. Still clean and sporting a nice set of reprolabels. The feeling you get from pointing that gun at some unsuspecting person and scaring the living crap out of them was priceless. Of course I know that was the 80’s and you cant do that sort of thing anymore. But the gun mode was what made Megatron different. It’s what made Megatron fun. You make him a tank, you take that all away. Im totally cool with Megatron being a tank in G2 and Armada. That’s a different continuity with many changes. But leave G1 alone. Don’t neuter it just to conform to today’s lame parents and their paranoid standards. Call me the 38 year old kid who never grew up if you like, but G1 Megatron holds a special place in my heart. He is a gun and will always be a gun in the hearts of true G1 fans.
On a side note, I found CW Megs in target and bought him for the hell of it. Yes I absolutely hate the scale, but Megatron is worthy of a spot on my coffee table from time to time. He stays far away from my classics collection in the other room. I might consider buying this set for s**t and giggles. I havent pre-ordered yet.

Re: DX9 TOYS AL-01 for CW Leader Megatron
Marvel comics G1 Megatron had a Cybertronian tank mode before he came to the Earth. This is why it makes sense for some newer update G1 Megatron toys to have a tank mode.
The safety plugs are needed for the Apollyon toy to pass through customs and avoid law suits, fines, jail time and customs confiscating the items. Given the option of nothing or getting safety plugs on the toy. I'd take the safety plugs applied to the toy.
