I really hope they retool it to replace the Autobot symbols with Predacon ones, but everything but the head looks the same. A shame, really... Some more significant retooling (like new Beast Mode arms with two fingers, some retooling of the chest, and new weapons) could have really made this thing pop as Megatron.

Oh, well... I'll probably pick it up just for being a Beast Wars homage in any case.

So how does the prototype end up on e-bay before the final version even exists ? Was the idea scrapped by Hasbro ? Anybody else notice the seller claims to have 2 available ?

Step 1. Prototype is made
Step 2. The prototype is used to cast the mold for the final version
Step 3. The newly-casted mold is used to make the final version
Step 4. The prototype gets stolen and put on eBay somewhere between steps 2 and 3

Agreed. I wasn't too interested in the figure, considering I have FOC Grim and a TM Megatron, but I'm even less interested since the head is the only thing new.

Maybe I'm getting a little spoiled, but Hasbro's been putting out some really nice retools/remolds recently. For example, Blaster(even though I've yet to find Soundblaster) has just enough new parts(and a new gun) to make him unique, and I really like that figure. In conjunction, the data discs all have excellent remold/retools to make them feel unique, and when compared side by side I was surprised by how different they were.

easy pass, first off i dont think this mold works as a BW Megatron & 2nd the mold itself is extremly disappointing. It looks good in the box but then you take it out & you wish you didnt.

Well, I think it was an error to attempt to make a Beast Wars Megatron out of Grimlock. He's a T-Rex, so I understand the temptation, but they took a very bulky mold and made it into a Transformer explicitly designed to be a smaller and more energy efficient design. As a result, Megs' head looks good, but his body is so massive it doesn't look much like his cartoon self.

Think I'll stick with United deluxe Megs.

Please please please let this mean that they're going to make Generations Beast Wars figure now.

I only started collecting TF toys within the last year. Far to late to get any Beast Wars toys in stores, and online prices are WAY out of my league.

Just because we're seeing this now doesn't mean it'll ever get released right away. Nowadays most molds are outfitted with two planned heads, and more than likely different parts even, with one set used and the other discarded when the toy's constructed. Definitely worth asking at the Hasbro Q&A at Botcon:

"In Generations, we've noticed a trend in retools being no less than a few months apart. Similar to the process of molding two heads at the same time and using only one for a toy (what we called "pretooled heads"), are all parts designed and produced at the same time, or is there switching out of mold sets involved?"

This body doesn't work for BW Megatron. Also, the fangs are to far into his face. I wouldn't mind seeing this head for a future BotCon exclusive using the new Predaking's mold though.
