The fans couldn't even bring in 2 million dollars for this picture. Could somebody explain exactly why the studio should listen to us? Especially when the vast majority want to jump up and down and act like a bitch?
Oh, and for your information, I'm a fan, and I sure as hell didn't want Welker to be Megatron. What about that?
While what you say is a touch harsh, I have to agree. I love Welkers voice acting and I am a fan of the 80s cartoon Megatron. But Movie Megs and 80s Megs are day and night. G1 Megatrons voice wouldn't be the strong and dark sound that one would associate with something that looks like what we've seen as Megatron from the movie.
Also can't argue that the fans simply wouldn't be enough for this movie to be a sucess. Geekmetal, if you and others don't see it, that won't be what makes it plummet to the ground. If it falls, it will fall under it's own weight. I'm looking forward to what Megatron will end up sounding like come movie time. By that I mean I'm eager to hear what Weaving will end up sounding like come final cut.
Also, good to see you around the boards again Xero! We have to go out for a beer before I move to Mississauga.

Meanwhile, Hugo Weaving has apparently won the role of voicing Megatron in the upcoming Transformers movie reports The IESB.
Weaving and Frank Welker, who voiced the cartoon version, have been in 'rumoured competition' for the role for a few months and now it seems the Aussie actor won out.
Never fear though cartoon fans, Welker will apparently voice a robot in the film anyhow - but not Megatron.
If true, this is great news! In addition to being a great nod to the fans, adding the most prolific voice actor in the business today to the cast is a great move!
I for one AM NOT HAPPY with this..
F%*K Agent Smith.. FRANK WELKER is the ONLY MEGATRON!
everyone else is just a bad rip off of Frank.. but the powers that be at the studio want STAR POWER in this movie.. they could care less what the fans want.
yea so what if frank is doing some bit part voice.. he always does that.. they got Peter Cullen for prime they NEED to have Frank welker as Megatron..
THANKS A LOT BAY! you freaking A$$CLOWN!

I am a fan, and I am not insulted.
I doubt very much Weaving will be a rip-off of Welker, and I am a huge Welker fan. I do not see how the selection of Weaving over Welker is, in any way, a personal attack on myself or others. I'm not sure why there is such a fuss over this.
Why can't Megatron be a smoother, more refined, elitist villain, as opposed to the maniacal siege-leading fellow he was in the G1 cartoon? The official movie prequel comics have already suggested to me that Movie Megatron is an arrogant, cold chap. Maybe Weaving will work.
Maybe I would have preferred Welker, but these comments about fans being insulted and about how Welker is the only Megatron and how Weaving will be a rip-off are absurd.
Countless people have played Macbeth, Iago, King Lear, etc. Are they rip-offs? Are they insults to the very first performers who played those parts?

you aren't stating an opinion. You are jumping up and down, throwing a tantrum like a two year old. Oh, and when you say the fans have been insulted, I gotta wonder, when were you voted spokesman for the Transfans? I must have missed that memo.....

For this film, my guess is they will have Welker be Starscream since he is the main bad guy for the majority of the film given what we know/assume right now. Then, SS dies at the end and Megatron is released (voiced by Weaving).
Now, Welker is in the projects, so if there is a sequel(s) they can have him come back and play the next big bad guy be it Shockwave, Galvatron, or Unicron.

If that is true, then why is it a bad thing that Weaving will be Megatron instead of Welker?

It may not be, but what's wrong with still wanting Welker? Nothing. He was the first, and in many people's opinions, the best.

But you don't make the movie Prime the G1 voice and not do the same to Megatron. In this case, Welker is mMegatron, not Hugo.

There's nothing wrong at all with wanting Welker. I wanted Welker. I still do.
However, there is something strange about saying that choosing Weaving is an insult to Welker and the fans.
There's also something incongruous about arguing that one person (e.g., Kaye) can be Megatron if it's not G1 Megatron:bookofjunon wrote:Kaye is Beast Wars Megatron, Armada Megatron, Energon Megatron, Cybertron Megatron.

then saying that this Megatron should be voiced by the G1 Megatron V.A. when it itself isn't G1 Megatron either.

Considering it is certainly based off G1, Prime is the same voice as in G1, then it should be Welker. There's nothing wrong with wanting it, and to some of us, it certainly is an insult. And if I was Welker I would certainly take it as an insult as well that some Hollywood bozo got the part over him when Welker has been doing VA'ing for far longer and is clearly the beter choice.
They went with Hugo to please the studio and nothing more. The studio wanted big name actors to do the voices. It's killing real voice actor work becuase all these studios are trying to do is attach big name people to movies. VA's are better at what they do than Hollywood big names.

I'll agree with you on this. Sadly, that is the nature of hollywood. The movie makers know that a big name will bring in a larger audience than an actual talented voice actor.
Milanion wrote:Down_Shift wrote:I had a pretty good feeling this would happen. If you compare Welkers voice acting to other on screen actors (in number of films) Welker has most any big star out there today beat by a mile.
Hmmm I'll put my vote down for.... Starscream.
I was thinking Barricade.
