I'm totally shocked that Quakewave is going for 600 bucks all the way up to 1200 bucks on Ebay. Insane!
Do ya think prices will continue to go up until an official MP is made?

A seller can ask for whatever he wants, but whether it's worth that much and/or whether buyers will pay that kind of money is a whole different story.

I understand that but what i'm getting at is how did this 3rd party TF rise up to holy grail like prices?

Is QW a sought after figure to such a degree that out of the multiple sellers on Ebay that this has become the average dollar value for it?

Is it just Ebay sellers establishing this price or is there an actual demand from fans that justify such exorbitant prices on a relatively new figure.

Just giving my personal opinion here, but I think most are aware of the whole copyright conundrum surrounding Shockwave, and it doesn't seem likely that TT will be doing an MP Shockwave until it's properly sorted out.

My guess is, ebay sellers are probably banking on that fact, and raising prices to ridiculous levels in hopes that someone is desperate enough to make the purchase.

More than once, I've been shocked by the kind of money collectors will fork out for a figure they want in the aftermarket. For all I know, there really IS someone out there who will pay 600 bucks for Quakewave.

It's been a few years since production ran for this figure, and of course being 3rd party it didn't have a huge run. However, this is not going for well over $600. Check the last few months of sold listings, a little over $400 at most. This is still well above the original $150 - 160 asking price.

It's a damn good figure, but I would feel horrible about myself spending that kind of money on it.

Well....go have yourself a gander at the current listings necroOblivion. The cheapest one is 631 bucks and the most expensive is 1200 and change. I'm not making this up for the sake of hyperbole.

Just sayin.

Perhaps we have a difference in semantics. Just now I looked and the highest priced item that is actively being bid on is $313.69 with free shipping. There are others who have set a higher price for Buy It Now listings (including this one for $1,000 and free shipping), but I wouldn't say those are the going prices. Most sales are going around $400 and under.

Wait, I'm talking USD. Are we on the same page here?

I think it's a little ridiculous, but I'm not surprised Quakewave has essentially tripled (in price.

Look at the facts:

(1) Limited runs (three of them, though, so...)
(2) Limited availability (it was mainly on CP, with BBTS picking up som stock of the 3rd run, I think)
(3) Limited information (on the prospect of an official Takara Shockwave)

The inflation makes sense.

I was gonna make the point earlier that i'm looking at Canadian ebay. That could be the difference and also the search settings i have on.

If some saudi prince has to have it is willing to pay 600, then let him spend his daddys money. To quote Rick from pawn stars, "Is that how much its worth, or is that what people are asking for it?" You can ask anything you want, good luck in getting it. Theres this crazy guy on ebay who keeps trying to sell a set of botcon 2005 virulant clones for $999 USD. I bought both of my sets for under $150 and that was before funpub had the archive sales. Theres always going to be a few nut jobs who let stuff collect dust on ebay for ridiculous crackhead prices. Let them dream. When I want something, I wait for someone who is selling their collection to come out of the woodworks. Theres always somebody in a less fortunate situation who needs quick cash for whatever reason. Im not afraid to send them a PM and haggle over the price a bit to negotiate a good deal. It often pays off.

Did some quick ebay ratio price searching on this yesterday.

Key here is you got to look at the previously sold listings. Noticed on average, Quakewave sealed sold from $300 to $350.

Must also take into account that some ebay sellers do shill bidding or have friends or relatives that shill bid for them. Shill bid is when sellers or friends bid on their own auctions.

With the shill bidding factor present. I'd calculate if a non shill bidder seller, sold Quakewave on ebay. That a non shill bidding seller ending auction for a sealed quakewave toy would sell for around $250 to $290 on ebay.

Think shill bidding also gets done to give a false secondary ebay value of the item being sold. Think crews of sellers get together and do this for this sole purpose.
