Besides the above list, I am going to throw in Zarana, and Zandar. I thought they were cool, and they had big roles in the Devil's Due comic for a bit.

That and I would love to get the Thundermachine again. I love my old one!

Those are cool but I'd be very disapointed if we get a Thundermachine before a Dragonfly or some other type of joe copter.

We've had too many recent Dragonfly releases. I can remember at least two, and it is one of my least favorite helicopters ever, and I count helicopters as my favorite vehicle type.

Yeah but none of them can hold 25th Airborne and Wild Bill. I will say though I'd like to see the mini copter that came with the Rhino.

Nope I have the original single pack release and the five pack version compared them side by side and they are different. I can't wait to get the g.i. joe five pack as well it was there but I had to pick one of them so I chose the cobra one to begin with and will get g.i.joe set next week if toy r us still has it.

I was wondering since I now a few people have picked up both the new five packs if the gi joe five pack is worth picking up or not, and what the difference are between the include figures and half a dozen other release of these figures.

Give me a few to get back to you. I took some photos today and I'll give you my opinions and some images once I get them off my camera. Be back soon!

EDIT: Got the images all ready, here goes. Images can be found here. I'll start with the Joe pack.

Hawk:
A crap repaint of the single-carded version. This one's nothing more than custom fodder.

Shipwreck:
His forearms are smaller and don't look as good. They look like Lady Jaye's arms. The headsculpt is too jovial. He doesn't have the badass boomstick from his package art, but his speargun's really cool.

Polly's great, but can't sit on his shoulder properly because she attaches to his satchel, and due to her weight, she tips over.

Flint:
I think his shirt is a new sculpt, he doesn't have the crest on his pocket anymore, and now has neat lapel stuff. Harness is a new mould which is more accurate to the character art. There's a hole on the back for backpack compliance, but when he has the bag on, it limits his movement.

The shotgun looks great, and the pump is even a separate piece. Yep, you can actually cock it. Too bad he can't hold it with both hands.

The headsculpt is new, but once again, the facial expression is.... odd.

Lady Jaye:
New sculpt, I think. The shirt is new and, unfortunately, buttoned-up. She has a knife on her shirt, too. She now has wrist articulation, and a new belt and sturdy spear. She still has the awful manly head from the DVD pack, and it'll take more than pink lips to make her look feminine.

Image

Snake-Eyes:
This is THE definitive 25th Snake-Eyes v2. Words can't describe how great this figure is. Seriously, this is your new Default Snake-Eyes. I think he's a properly-coloured version of the Snake-Eyes that comes in one of those DVD packs.

The attention to detail on the sword is particularly impressive. Detail on the hilt, there's a snake on it, and the Arashikage hexagram.

Image

Image

The Joe pack has an excellent Snake-Eyes, a terrific Flint, and the Lady Jaye and Shipwreck are great too. Hawk's the weakest figure.

Now, onto the Cobra pack.

Cobra Commander:
Nothing to see here, move along.

Storm Shadow:
He has the 'sleeveless' look from the cartoon and the nunchaku sticks that his other versions were missing. His swords have painted Arashikage hexagrams on them, too. If you like the sleeveless look, here's your new Default v1 Storm Shadow.

Zartan:
If you have the single-carded Zartan that came with the Combat Heroes swamp skiier, you can pass on this one, as his chest armour is 'glowing' pink, like it did when he got pissed in the cartoon.

If you DON'T have that version, paint the chest armour black. The picture below shows him after I've painted his chest armour, added some silver wear like on his shoulder pads, and given him his bow from the comics (which is NOT included in the 5-pack; the image just shows that the figure isn't bad if you're willing to put some work into it).

Image

Viper:
The helmet is new. The blue helmet and the goggles are one part (no more missing goggles!), and the chrome visor is another part. The Chrome visor looks great.

On his left shoulder, there's the insignia that his other versions lacked. His backpack does not feature a painted Cobra logo and the tips of his boots are unpainted.

The new arms aren't as good as the old arms. Sure, he can do more than just hold his gun, but he can't hold his gun as nicely as the older arms could. Oh, and his gun is now dark grey, and looks better than the bright grey.

Image

The Baroness:
Yowza. Get rid of all your other 25th Baroness figures, as you have a new Default Baroness right here. She can stand up straight, her face looks like the Baroness ('bout time), she has double-jointed knees like the rest of the figures, she has new feet (the hole is in her shoe instead of between the heel), she has painted details on her legs, abdomen, and her belt, and a very nice Cobra logo on her chest.

Her gauntlets have the sculpted detail of her original character design, but they are unpainted.

She only comes with the UMP SMG, like the blue version.

Image

For me, the packs were worth the purchase because the Baroness, Flint and Snake-Eyes are definitive versions of those characters (and if you want a cartoon-accurate Lady Jaye, here she is), I love Vipers, and I didn't have a Flint or Zartan. I plan on customizing the Storm Shadow, Lady Jaye, Hawk, and Cobra Commander.

The Baroness and Snake-Eyes are the true gems of these packs. And for all the whining fanboys who were bitching about a problem that wasn't even that big of a deal, the Viper should shut them up.

I really like these packs, but by now you probably have Snake-Eyes, Storm Shadows, and Cobra Commanders comin' out your smeghole, but these sets strike a good balance between redundancy and 'how-we-should-have-them-in-the-first place' versions (except for a few accessories).

What with the Hall of Heroes versions coming out, you can pretty much just wait and get the individual characters you'd like from these sets (well, the Snake-Eyes, the Flint, the Zartan, and the Storm Shadow, anyway).

If you want to see the pictures I posted, you can find them here:

I've been meaning to ask this guys but keep forgetting. Now that we have the complete MASS device in what order do the element containers go? I could put the DVD in but I'm assuming someone here would have this bit of info memorized. Also, starting with the Joe relaunch at the dawn of the millennium was CC considered human and not a mutant? If so am I correct in assuming his real name was Fred? Have we ever seen his real face, clearly? Were any of those mini episodes that came on the CD ROMS released on DVD? Will the average collector ever be truly happy? Will I remember what I did with my pants? Oh, sorry digressing there.

Dear chuckdawg1999,
The only question I can answer from for sure is that cobra commander is not named fred. Fred VII - A soldier in the Crimson Guard who temporarily impersonated Cobra Commander after fatally shooting him (or so he believed). He was killed when the real Cobra Commander made his triumphant return. Here is link to file card for that version of cobra commander: http://www.yojoe.com/filecard/08/cobracommander38.shtml

Hopefully one of the Out Backs from either the 7-pack or the tank set will get changed in some way. I really don't need two...

The Firebat is practically identical to the original, so yes, it fits in the Terrordrome.

Thanks for the answer tigertracks. I always wonder when I get a vehicle how close to original it is. I can't wait for the Arctic HISS and Stinger to ship both of those vehicles look really amazing. I heard that when hasbro restart this series of figures in 2010 we are going to get some of the original bases as well.

I thought I would ask a couple of questions just to see what people had to say:

1. What g.i. joe and cobra figures are you missing since 25th anniversary relaunch?

2. What bases do you hope hasbro does 2010 if they continue this line of figures?

There are two bases that I would love to see redone:

1. The Cobra Terror Drome and I wish it would come with a couple of
tele-vipers unstead of evac.

2. The Transportable Tactical Battle Platform just because it would be cool to have something for the Killer W.H.A.L.E. to dock with if they decide to do the Killer W.H.A.L.E. 2010.

I would like to see them do the little sets like the Cobra outpost, the Coastal Defender, the shooting range, the bivouac, etc.

The Tactical Battle Platform would be good too.

When they realized they didn't have the rights to the name Water Moccasin. That or for the movie line there will be another boat or water device using the name "Water Moccasin." I wish that they would've put out that other Cobra boat, the red one that was a Convention Exclusive TF boat.

By the by, do all the Joes in the 5 pack have those loose as morning **** hands? My Flint can't even hold his pistol and that's with a trigger finger and Hawk, don't even ask. I'm not going to bother with the rest if they're all like that. Plus my Trakker figure has a messed up left knee which makes him stand awkward, and his back pack doesn't sit straight unless you have the arm grip positioned just so. By the way, was he based on one of those single packed figures that came out later on towards the end of the MASK line?

He should not be. His outfit and helmet is a direct updating of his original jump suit (apparently using an Ace figure for most of him) and Spectrum Mask, released with the Thunderhawk Camero.

As for his helipack, with the size, style, and colour it should just be a backpack converted from a Condor (motercycle/chopper) unit.

There was a single figure mission pack with a helipack in the second year, but that was packed with Bruce Sato, with the Grasshopper Mask and wasn't as stylized as the one released with Trakker.

The hydrofoil was released as a TRU exclusive for GI Joe instead of COBRA a couple of years back. You may be able to still find one online for a decent price.

The Condor was the very first MASK vehicle I owned. I still have it around somewhere. I made a big push a few years back to get a bunch of MASK stuff. I love those toys... I still really want to get a complete Bulldog, and a complete GOLIATH.

The hydrofoil was released as a TRU exclusive for GI Joe instead of COBRA a couple of years back. You may be able to still find one online for a decent price.

I've been looking around and I've noticed vintage Hydrofoils don't actually go for too much. I think I'll get one when I have a little more money.
