GI Joe Fans Unite-- 25th Anniversary Fig Talk and More!

Do you collect other toys besides Transformers? Maybe you've got a Masters of the Universe collection you'd like to show off, or maybe you like Thundercats, Voltron, G.I.Joe, Power Rangers, Star Wars, Wrestling, or any of the various comic book toy lines. Please keep the discussions here to non-Transformers toy lines.

And the eye candy is fantastic too. I won't jump into spoiler discussion, there is another thread about the movie where those are being dicussed, but it is worth it for you guys to check out.

I’ll wait for the DVD like with the Transformers movies. Guess it can’t be too bad.

So I pop into Wal-Mart today to get groceries with my mother. Of course while I’m there I check the toy isle and saw the usual stuff, but then I found, nestled tightly between the pegs some later wave figures! Flash, an Eel, Crimson Neo-Viper, PIT Commando, and an Elite Viper. So there I sit in the isle, by myself saying ”yes, yes, yes, yes, yes…” only to then realize I have about sixteen bucks… I know I must’ve looked insane.

So anyway, I picked up a PIT Commando and Elite Viper, here are my thoughts:

Elite Viper

This one is really nice. He comes with an backpack, axe, pistol, two machine guns, and an missile launcher.

His head is nice, but a little hard to make out the details on. The colors and paint are really nice though, I liked the dry brushed silver paint on his vest and a few other spots. He’s mostly a dark blue, so he’ll look good leading my Vipers me thinks.

His articulation is unhindered. He does reuse the Viper (commando) torso, but his legs are smaller so he can sit right. Arms bend good, so he can hold his gun correctly too.

I’m a little unsure why he would need an axe, but it’s pretty cool. It stores in his backpack too, so he can be equipped with most of his gear at one time. He looks cool when he has both his machine guns out, a little double action there. I don’t think many Joes have come with two of the same gun like this before, so I appreciate it with this figure. His missile launcher is the same one included with the Viper Commando, though, I doubt anyone cares about that.

Having got the PIT Commando with him today, it seemed like he wasn’t as much bang for your buck, but seeing as he’s less of a repaint I think he’s pretty good. I’d like a few more myself.

PIT Commando

This figure is odd but I like him. He comes with a load of gear, and is a cheap alternative to get Dusty if you passed on DVD pack #4 (or was it #3? Oh well, the one with Serpentor ).

The figure itself is entirely Dusty, only now in urban colors. This means everything that sucked about Dusty sucks here too, whereas everything that was awesome about Dusty is awesome here as well. My only real beef is that he can’t hold his riffle correctly, and I have another skirt that doesn’t seem to want to stay buttoned.

I like the paint scheme on him. Like most of the Joes in the line, he’s mostly grey, but there’s detailed camo all over him.

Gear is the main attraction here really. Four helmets, two different vests, four guns, backpack, and shield. I was a little disappointed to find out his riffle is softer than his other weapons, which just seemed kind of odd. I also wish you didn’t need to pop off his head to change vests, but otherwise his gear is awesome. It’s fun to tinker with all the possibilities it gives him.

I’d recommend this figure for the sheer amount of gear alone. Very happy with my little score today.

So, really how is the pitt commando? I've heard about awesome figures before only to find them to be not as awesome, like the time I had a three way with Krista Allen and Jenna Jameson. On paper it looked good but in the end didn't click.

He is good. Gear is awesome, and if you liked Dusty, you should love this guy.

Am I missing something? I bought Cobra Commander today and he came without any hoses to connect his mask to his chest. I love the figure, but I'm not really digging the thought of having to find one with the hoses.

If all else fails, I can just use the non-hose version as a pilot for something.

That sucks, but at least I was able to rig something up myself. I guess being a packrat can be handy at times.

Ok. So I went to Target today, the shelves were literally overflowing. One corner section two, TWO end caps. No Pit Commandos. I saw the Crimson Neo, Elite, and Eel vipers. I couldn't bring myself to grab the crimson neo because of his head, the eels guns are bent in package, and the elite I'd see more of down the line. Do we know which vipers are in the movie? I saw Helix, pass; grabbed Flash (ah, ah) because it's Flash (ah, ah). Not only is the claw black it also has green missiles. I'll grab ONE if I can get a deal on it. Shame I was going to troop build these. Passed on the SE cycle since his sword doesn't have a sheath with it. Picked up the glider with grand slam. Didn't look to see if there were other vehicles since I was pissed about the Pit Commandos. This is starting to be a bit much.

Pic VERY related. If you liked that, click on my sig for some similar ones.

I picked up the Steel Crusher [aka Cobra Party Van] yesterday on sale. It's big, sturdy, has rubber tires and metal axels, and is fun as hell. I don't like that it's a Hummer, though. Looks too ghetto/gangsta instead of military, pic related:

Image

But, they can be deployed and not be suspicious. Which is good, but I still would have preferred a generic truck than something as product-placementy. At least kids'll learn that Hummers are evil, since Cobra uses them.

The ploy is large and mean-looking, the flip-out missiles look like small CLAW missiles, and the pop-up cannon feels weak, as the spring that deploys the turret isn't very strong, so the gun bounces up and down sometimes, as the truck rolls around. And it swivels around really easily too. It doesn't elevate, though. Storage for the missiles inside the truck is a great touch.

The instructions are confusing, as the labels have no numbers, so it took me a while [and a lot of looking at the front and back of the box] to place all the stickers. Not sure why the instructions want you to put the small Cobra sigil on the rear window instead of the license plate area. I put it on the plate.

The interior has a detailed instrument panel and has room for 2 figures. There are no rear seats, unless if you deploy the turret and have dudes sit in the back. You can have 2 guys inside, 4 on the running boards, 2 on the roof foot pegs, and 2 in back. All aboard the Cobra Party Van! Destination: awesome.

The driver isn't too bad either. He's a newschool Motor-Viper who, luckily, is not coloured like the one on the back of the box. Gone is the hideous baby-blue of old. Now he's mainly dark blue with some barely lighter blue on his gloves, boots, and vest. The visor is clear instead of silver and he has no paint apps. I painted the visor, the V on his chest, his belt buckle, the box on the back, and the tips of the tubes silver, and the belt and tubes black. He looks much better this way, and close enough to the original Motor-Viper for me, since I don't like the original Motor-Viper, anyway.

I'd take some photos, but it's 1 in the smegging morning. Maybe tomorrow if you guys want some.

I got the Cobra Party Van on sale for about $30 Canadian, which is still too much even when on sale. Still, the vehicle is very fun. I would have loved the crap outta this as a kid.

Forgot to mention that Target has the RHINO in stock as well as the Cobra gunship with the red helmeted Firefly. It appears that the Switchfire has been re-released in Cobra and Joe colors; might be remolded too.

Hasbro is hinting at two more playsets for the rise of cobra line:

1. Is the submarine from the rise of cobra movie which is said to be as long as the original u.s.s. flagg

2. The other is a modern update of the u.s.s. Flagg which the size of this playset has not been announced yet.

Will see if either of these things happen next week when joecon takes place.

I couldn't justify buying BMF but somehow some way I will justify the Flagg, as long as it's awesome with a side of oh yeah.

Not sure why you passed on HELIX, she is a really good figure.

Black claw... there are not enough attachment points on the claw for all the missiles that are included. You can load it up, and not use ANY of the green or nanomite missiles.

If it is a USS FLAGG re-release I am going to flip... in a bad way...

Helix's guns look like crap and none of her other accessories looked worthwhile to me. I only saw green missiles for the Claw, I'll have to look again. Oh yeah, didn't you just buy a vintage Flagg? Ouch. I thought I was pissed when they re-released the RHINO. Eek.

If you don't like helix's guns then just replace them with ones that come with any of the other figures you have. I said it is just a rumor coming out of hasbro right now, so I wouldn't get to worried untill we see both of these playsets for all we know they could be making a playset based on the mars complex featured in the film.

Wasn't a big fan of the figure either. Maybe I have to give it a second look since I was hyper over the chance of finding a PC. A MARS set would be awesome as we need cobra office space. Would it be wrong to hope for an Extensive Enterprises tower playset too?

The problem with finding a pitt commando is that when stores do get a shipment the first person to find them will often buy all of them because they have heard that they can make four different figures out of that figure. Agent helix is a nice figure I own her and wasn't wowed by the picture that had been on the internet. and even when she is in the package she doesn't look that great but once you remove her from the package she isn't a half bad figure.

I think the problem I'm having is that she, like most of the movie figures, doesn't have a working sheath or holster. That is driving me nuts especially with SE who has nothing to hold his glock.

The nice thing about hasbro only hinting at what the two playsets will be is that we can say what we hope they will be. The other playset I would love for hasbro to do is revamped terror drome, just because I have always loved that playset but thought there was so much more that they could do with it using modern tech to update it. But I do like chuckdawg idea of Extensive Enterprises tower playset but the question is how tall would you make it.

I'd want the towers to be big enough to hold a rattler like in the toon. What's up with Hasbro doing all these playsets now? Back during the 25th line they said there wasn't enough interest and that it would have to be a store exclusive but there were no takers.

If you're talking about the "High School Shooting" Snake-Eyes with dark trenchcoat, assault rifle, anti-depressants and shareware version of Doom, you can put the sidearm into the belt and it will be held in place by the belt and the coat. It looks pretty cool that way!

In terms of playsets, I'd really like the first '80s 'headquarters' set, the pre-fab one they set up at Fort Wadsworth on top of the actual Pit. That one was simple but awesome, with filecard holders, a prison area, computer room, a garage for the VAMP, etc.

Though I'd really enjoy some of the smaller playsets like the battlefield equipment ones or Checkpoint Alpha, and I'm glad they're re-releasing them, albeit it with movie stickers and figures.

I will send you a Pit Commando, hell even two, if you stop them from re-releasing the FLAGG.

I would love a playset for my Crimson Twins to use as home. They could make it similar to the old school Death Star that had 3 levels I believe, and all the main things one would need in that sort of playset.

I think a version of the first joe headquarters would be cool. I would be fine with that, I was lucky enough to get one of those as a child, and I still have it, albeit in storage, but it incredibly fun and functional. Plus it was featured in the opening sequence of the cartoon for so long, even though it was a little changed.

A new Terrordrome type playset would be fun too. While I have an original Terrordrome, i would always like to own another.

I'm still waiting for an ROC The Pit sale...

TRU Canada is selling their PITs so i would imagine you'll see US retailers selling them as well.

Wait, hold up, hoser -- that thing's out up here? Did they nerf the electronics? I thought there were voice clips.

The big playset, hell yhea it's up here. I first saw it 3 weeks ago at TRU, but they've got them at Wally-world too.

I think TRU's current sale price should have it at under $110. before G&PST. In as far as I saw, the thing is exactly the same but with the lovely tri-lingual packaging.
