i've heard mixed opinions throughout this thread, but:
are either (or both) of the 5-packs a good buy?

If you like your joe's 3.75, they are worth it. cool figures, great boxes, all in all, a really nice collector's item. :-?

Well buying a couple single carded figures first to see if you like them, might be good option. I like them, but I like Joe sutff, quite a bit.

Better nab PIMP DADDY DESTRO now though, before the prices skyrocket any higher than they already are. Unless you could care less, and think you will always 'care less'.

I saw some of the commando figures this past weekend. Flint, Snake Eyes, and some Cobra drone that transformed into a bike. Flint looks better in person, don't understand him coming with a Cutlass though.

Actually the Snake Eyes in that group is one of my favorites, and Flint is decent, if not a bit mis-represented though.

The Red banshee is teh suck though! Avoid it at all costs!!!

I'm thinking about getting some of the older Sigma 6 guys off of Ebay. Zartan especially looks good so I want to get him before the new one comes out. Any word if the 25th Zartan can change color too?

Thought I would share an interesting variant to the 5-packs I saw on another site...could be a running change?

http://forums.yojoe.com/showthread.php?t=50848

Supposedly, the Joe 5-pack has a variant as well. I like the look of this one better than the first release.

BTW, when is Seib's new Joe site going to be finished?

Interesting about the 5-pack variant. The newer version looks better. I hate having to dig out the bases from that hole.

Well, I hit the jackpot tonight. I got at a Walmart:

Buzzer
Lady Jaye
Storm Shadow II
Beachhead
Cobra (soldier) x2

I also saw Snake Eyes II, hooded Cobra Commander, and Serpentor. Already have the first two, and hated Serpentor. The original figure blows away that imposter. I do like the hand knife though. Pity it's with a sucky figure.

No Flint or Cobra Officer. I haven't opened these yet, as I need to get into bed! ;)

I agree. I want to like it, I just can't. The original is definitely better.

There is supposedly a variant on the hooded Cobra Commander as well. One version has the buckles on his leg filled in as solid gold buckles, the other has the buckle outline with black in the middle (how it technically should look).

I thought I heard that the 25th would have the bad reaction to sunlight that the original had. I hope it does! 8)

Ah, that would be cool if the 25th Zartan does the color change. Even better if his armor pieces are removable too. Hell, Beachhead's crossbow is removable from his backpack. How awesome is that?

I just checked my hooded CC, and his buckles are all filled in with gold. Ah well... I didn't even check the ones I saw last night, since I didn't know there was a difference. I'd probably have preferred the other one if I knew about the difference.

Yup, that's it for wave 2. V2 Snake Eyes, V2 Storm Shadow, and V2 Cobra Commander are also in the cases with wave 2. No SE's with black Timber though. The ones I saw mixed with wave 2 were the white Timbers.

The new Cobra 5-pack is supposed to be out in October. Can't wait for that Stinger driver.

Anyone have access to the "sillhouettes" pictures that show wave 4?

There is talk of wave four consisting of Snow Job, Destro, Snake Eyes, Crimson Guard, and Flash.

Flash and CG - hell yeah! I hope the Destro has the chromed head unlike the 5-pack.

Crimson Guard... Another incredibly awesome troop builder I won't be able to buy outside of BBTS.

so even though wave 2 is here, i assume the wave 1 figs will still be attainable in stores? i stil can't find flint and the cobra trooper.

Well, here's what BBTS had to say on the subject:

Hi - Due to overwhelming demand, Hasbro will not be able to fill the
rest of our orders for the GI Joe 25th Anniversary wave 1 figures. I'm
extremely sorry for this problem - Hasbro generally fills all our orders
without problems, but this line was so popular that they diverted stock
to mass market stores and could not fill the remainder of 'specialty'
market orders. We unfortunately will have to cancel your preorder for
this item and mark it as 'sold out' on our website. Sorry again for the
bad news.

GI Joe Con made Sportcenter's Top Ten this morning...the parachute drop...pretty cool!

Did you guys see the new Snow Job sculpt? That is freakin' sweet.

So far, it does not appear that we have learned much new from the GI Joe con. At least that I know of.

I do like the idea of the Target exclusive vehicle packs, using classic 3 3/4 vehicles, although none of these vehicles are 'WOW' releases, at least it is something.

And they are changing the problem for the articulation and figures sitting with 25th Wave 3! Yay!

Is it my eyes playing tricks on me or is there a variant figure in the original Cobra Five Pack? I'd swear that one of my troopers has black eyebrows and the other has lighter brown.

Suupose I should add the image:
