Hasbro Banking on "Transformers" Hitting It Big at Box Office

Wow. Just...wow.

Anyway, this news isn't all that surprising--a lot of toy companies that were doin' well for themselves twenty years ago have been struggling since the "electronic revolution." Even Lego--which, I won't lie, I love even more than TFs--has had to let go of 3,000 of its employees (over a third!) and move production to countries with lower taxation, just to survive the past few years in the red. Hasbro's seeming struggle with profits isn't all that surprising in light of the shift in "youth consumer trends."

So why even regard failure of the movie as an option? Yes, there's a chance that if the movie tanks, then Hasbro still might recover with the Transformers property--but that's like saying disco's gonna come back outside of an "ironic" hipster nightclub. I kinda hope the movie does well enough that, maybe in another five to ten years, we'll still see Transformers on the shelves as iconic as ever...

C'mon, people. Let's at least make it to a quarter-century before we revert to such strict G1 guidelines...

Hollyweird rarely ever gets it right. I'm boycotting this typical Bay train wreck. I've never cared for Bay or any of his film. Honestly I've never paid to watch any of his films at the cinema ,or own any of Bay's dvds. I'm happy I got my whole g1 set along with the orginal movie.

Well according to the general population and buzz about this movie your senses aren't too accurate. Like I said and this post brings more credence to my staement that "you are saying this movie will fail because you dont like who is involved with it.

Well said. Kind of like saying someone doesn't like Aliens because James Cameron is rude to his cast.

Spacer, judge the movie on its content, not on the people who make it. To do otherwise is simply silly.

He seems to be nothing but full of silly.

Spacer, you're entitled to your opinion and it's your right to enjoy it. However, you've already made your point and no one's going to make you see other wise, so please stop trying to do the same to us. *YOU* remind me of Castro, with your tactics and narrow minded point of view.

You're welcome to hate the movie, and unfortunately the people, but you're an idiot to feel that way. I understand that you're upset with the way Bay has handled things, how the actors portray their roles, etc, etc. However, that's no reason to hate someone. In fact, your hatred of them makes me sick, *YOU* make me sick.

You claim to be a Christian, yet you hate with all of your being. Christ was/is/always shall be fully against hatred, yet you seem to live above his rules? I don't think so.

Also, remember this scripture?

Matthew 5:22, Luke 11:42, 40, Matthew 23:17
'Anyone who says, "You fool" Will be subject to the fires of hell.'

You just said you're not the fool (but made it sound like the others around you, are.)

Watch yourself.

Because this scripture: "It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God." (Luke 4:12 ACP/KJV) while directed at Satan during his failed attempt to drive Christ into temptation, it holds true for us as well. Especially us Christians.

Who do you think you are?

My apologies to everyone else having to seet his, but it needed to be said, and I thought that a fellow Christian would be suited best for reminding him of this. Anyone else, and it might be misconstrued as being an attack against our religion, and that's for another time and another place. I just wanted him to see that he's being a hypocrite and rather cruel, and that he should curb it.

With that, I shall drop the religious talk in this thread (seeing as it has nothing to do with the topic) and again I apologize. Someone just had to say something. I want him to see that sometimes...saying nothing says more than opening one's mouth.
NOTE: Realize that I am not a perfect Christian, nor do I profess to be. I apologize if anyone's ever offended by me, I'm not perfect. Don't hold my posts and opinions against other Christians.

You can't make everybody happy, so why bother? There are over a dozen different major sects in the Protestant division of the Christian church, after all. Spacer, I'm glad you enjoy G1. Check back in after a couple months when we start seeing more of the Hasbro MP Starscream or maybe more classic-style toys after the Cartoon Network Project gets into full swing.

As for the movie, and Hasbro banking on the film to do well... it's going to do well. The worst it could possibly do is an opening weekend domestic gross of $65 million, and the record for the 4th weekend is only $88 million. It is actually plausible to consider TF could break that record.

Whether any of the other Hasbro properties will actually translate into a broad multi-platform movie success remains to be seen. GI-Joe seems tame compared to TF, and I wouldn't go see a Monopoly movie if you paid me. Maybe they'll revive some of their dormant properties, like Battle Beasts, instead.

Aren't Battle Beasts tied into TransFormers in some capacity? And I mean besides the faction rubsign. I might be incorrect, but something gave me the impression that they were somehow linked. (It was on the 'net, and for the life of me I can't remember where it was. Toyarchive perhaps.)

Anywho, if so...then a potential movie of Battle Beasts might do well, considering TF is expected to do well. (Although I remember BB, and I didn't care for them one bit.)

My grandma never watched any Arnold Schwartzeneggar movies because he's a Republican. Not because Junior sucked, or Predator and the Terminator flicks were so violent. NAY! Because he's a Republican.

That was dumb.

Don't hate a movie because Michael Bay has rage control issues (I do too!), or that Tom Cruise is insane, or that Justin Long was a snobbish prick in the Mac Ads, or that Orlando Bloom is very...feminine. Because they make good movies.

Instead, hate a movie for bad writing, bad acting, bad cinematography, what have you.

Off-topic as all hell, but that might be this side of amazing. And by "amazing," I mean "either incredibly well-done, or so ungodly poorly-scripted and cheesy that it'll become an instant B-Movie hit." In either case, not likely you'd see many people spring-up and cry bloody murder at the sight of new Beasts...

I think Don Murphy's a wanker. There are some movies of Michael Bay's that I like, and some I hate.

But goddamn was this a good movie.

I don't know if it's anything official or not, but I loved the little guys personally. And their vehicles were really awesome looking.

Based on the TF Robot Heroes line, I think a new Battle Beasts toyline would be amazing. And I totally agree, a movie would be amazing good,or amazing bad, but amazing either way. And there are properties that Hasbro could get a hold of, either out of the Kenner vaults or maybe from the Takara/Tomy/Galoob conglomerate. Starriors was another toyline that I loved as a kid, that I've always thought had real update potential. Hmm...what else from the 80's? Inhumanoids? Too creepy. Did Hasbro do Sectaurs or Visionaries?

Or, Hasbro could go a different route. My Little Pony. Or a Magic the Gathering movie. The thought of either one makes me cringe a little. (And I played magic for years and years).

Thanks to all the Aussies who saw the premiere and have been totally enthusiastic about it. I haven't been this irrationally giddy to see a movie in almost a decade.

A number of Australian Seibertron members were lucky enough to see it (except Trunksy, we decided he was a little too neurotic to be allowed near Michael Bay) along with other Australians from the various other TF boards.

We're just not really allowed to talk about it in detail until the 23rd. (Which is about 52 hours from now ...)

Yup I believe it is going to be big as well. Hey does anyone know where should I go online for finding a better deal, I am trying to place an order for the Hasbro Transformers Ultimate Bumblebee figuring. Apparently I only managed to find this site on which I could place an order. Does anyone know any place else where I could get a cheaper and better deal?

Thanks
