The models for Victory Saber do look promising, I'm gonna keep an eye on them.

I did what apparently several others did and paired up Magnus Prime from the TR Box set (basically Super Ginrai), with legends God Bomber to make my God Ginrai. It actually holds together quite well.

I've obtained basically every Japanese character offered either through Generations, or TT Legends/Selects from 2016 on, and although some of them aren't ideal, I'll always push for characters that haven't received a modern update vs one that was done recently, even if it may not be exactly ideal.

I mean I get that legacy characters will get new versions almost every year, but if we start asking for a redo of everything, when will we ever get anything new? We've had 2 Astrotrains in the last 5 years, and I still see people wanting yet ANOTHER Astrotrain.

Yeah, I just added one to the number I saw just before I backed it early this morning (at the time of the livestream it was midnight for me, as I’m currently deployed in Korea). Just hope I’ve got $192 to spare come October 11

Has anyone seen what these prototypes digibashed yet? I saw someone on Twitter do Victory Leo’s robot mode but that’s the only colored approximation I’ve seen thus far.

That's because the Astrotrains we got grossly missed the mark. IIRC the TR was just a byproduct of the intended version of that figure which was Sentinel Prime, and the WFC version had its much-discussed flaws in all 3 modes. I get the TR version, it's a quick money grab by way of a quick repaint (with minor retooling), but Hasbro should have held off on the WFC figure and gave us a proper leader Astrotrain in SS86, considering that's where his most well-known scenes occurred. Or better yet, give us a commander class version, which would be more to scale.

Right. I love that mold, I have every release made of it, Hasbro and Takara Tomy, exclusive and not, but it's far from a definitive version. I like my updates, but also like my remakes. Being a Headmaster with no basic Ginrai mode is a little too different for me to be happy with sticking him in with Earthrise or Kingdom figures (Siege would be fine). I want God Ginrai to get the same treatment we see here with Victory Saber. A roughly Titan Master sized Ginrai, a Voyager sized Transtector Ginrai with trailer, a larger than Voyager Super Ginrai, an equally as tall "Weaponizer" God Bomber, and a very large God Ginrai. This is never going to happen at retail or they would have already done it. Then again Hasbro would sell it as Optimus Prime so maybe it could be done as Commander Class at retail since it would sell regardless, though God Bomber would have to be sold separately, maybe as a Leader. I don't really care how it happens, I'd like to see it happen some day soon.

Anyway, Victory Saber has officially passed the one third funded mark in under 15 hours and it's still climbing steadily. This means good things for both cheaper HasLab crowdfunds and future Japanese characters.

Just get the perfect effect? Ginrai, completes tr power master prime nicely plus some g1 power master prime guns for his shoulders. Makes it look a lot better. I preffered the TR box set version for the bigger faction symbols on the trailer but didn't feel like I needed three of him after getting the legends god ginrai set.


Sabres visible arms are more noticeable on the digibash, way worse than the potp leaders but maybe that's something left over if sabre ever had an potp evolution leader figure in the works at some point. People buying multiples/open to other countries should help this get backed as he's a bit superfluous for anyone with the MP or similar. Probably not the best character to test the Japanese g1 waters but we already have black zarak for that (and super megatron etc etc).

At this rate I don't like our chances of getting a Generation 3... Too risky for Hastak?

Though I will admit I want them to do a new set of constructicons.

As for Victory Saber I will reserve judgement until he's revealed in colour. I'm cautiously Optimus- I mean optimistic.

Sentinal then Astrotrain, Megatron then Bliztwing, Sky Shadow then Overlord, etc. Second, the TR Astrotrain design is based on his comics stormbringer design, which should pretty much confirm he was the intended design. However, that design wasn't really G1, so I can definitely see why anyone would have wanted another.

TR Astrotrain is pretty much the Stormbringer design, hence the calls for toon G1 Astrotrain, which resulted in the Siege/Earthrise leader. I think it was pretty much a given that he was meant for Earthrise though given how un-cybertonian his train mode was.

I think many people put him down because of Hasbro's original PM Prime. But he is indeed a vast improvement over that one.

I applaud Hasbro for starting with Victory Sabre because it shows they did their homework. Every other Autobot leader in the Japanese G1 continuity has been covered in one way or another in Generations style over the past several years. We've had Fortress Maximus since Titans Return, God Ginrai from Legends, Dai Atlus from Legends, and even Star Convoy from Selects. Are all of these "perfect?" No, but we only recently got truly definitive versions of Optimus Prime and Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime in the Generations style. Star Sabre was the last remaining gap. Even if you were using the Masterpiece version in your Generations collection, you still lacked an official Victory Leo. Now that Hasbro can dazzle us by completing the line-up of Japanese G1 Autobot leaders with this Victory Leo set, re-dos of other characters like Ginrai and Star Convoy are more likely, especially with a need to find a new use for the Titan Class price point at retail now that almost all of the city-bots and large scale characters like Omega Supreme are done.

Agreed 100% on the choice of Victory Saber. It's just that there are still many characters from the Japanese series that don't have updates at all. I'd rather get those first before revisiting ones we already have.

It certainly doesn't help that many of the non-leader Japanese-only characters are complete nobodies that most of the fandom doesn't know or care about as characters.

Realistically, sure, my below wish list for Combiners probably isn't going to ever be fully completed. But I can't count the number of comments I've seen on multiple forums and social media posts asking for Montructor and/ or Dinoking.

To be fair, his status as a phase sixer in previous IDW helped his popularity. But I do think you've hit on the most likely method for other lesser known characters to be made, pretool/retool/redeco/whatever of a more known figure.

I'm sure Star Saber will be fully backed with all the stretch goals.
Let's hope that it will encourage them to make Deathsaurus after.

Sky Shadow got a toy because of IDW, full stop. Twice.

You can spin it however you like. I know Black Shadow from Victory. I had to look at TF Wiki to even know he was in IDW. It appears maybe 4 or 5 issues of 400+ comics. I'd say he is obscure either way. That's like folks saying they know Star Saber from IDW. That may be true, but let's not fool ourselves who Hasbro is marketing their Haslab to.

I'm not spinning it. I knew who Black Shadow was, but he wasn't getting any love from Hasbro or Takara for decades before he showed up in a James Roberts comic book. The timing couldn't have been coincidental.

Black Shadow wasn't just popular from IDW. He has early-fandom enamorment behind him, having been a slick-looking retool of the super popular Thunderwing and the whole "Space Mafia" misconception coloring people's imaginations about him.

Commander Class would be perfect to have them leader sized with the full deluxe sized transformable inner bot.
