Hi guys! Just recently finished my new Bumblebee mod! :)

Feel free to discuss anything about any of the thousands of Transformer toys here. Anything from Generation 1 all the way to the soon to be released, the never to be released or the hope to be released is fair game! Want to show off your stuff? Please post your's and see others in the Transformers Collections Forum.

Great work!

I was looking for the rooftop, but i found it in your answers.

I think it will be much simpler, and more accurate to retain the roof as the arm plate. Just like the original toy. Since you've solved the quarter window problem.

What remains to be done is to give the plate an elongated slot hole in the roof, right were the original pivot is located. Then find way to add the circular silver thingy, and a way to hide it (and the slot hole) in car mode.

But that sounds too difficult to do. Hehe.

So i'm thinking of another solution. Since the roof plate is wide, compared to the arm, you can saw it into half (for each arm, making it separate into 4 pieces total), then have half of it fold over to reveal the silver disc hidden inside. As for the slotted hole, just paint a groove black, to simulate the hole. (If you look at the inside of the roof, it is already shaped in such a way, with a groove running along.)

:)

Thanks, AutoBot! Yeah, I thought of that, too... the rooftop is 1mm thick and my Dremel saw blade is much thinner. It could be done... the plastics I have are about 0.3mm and can be inserted as neat lil placeholders. Perhaps when I modify my '79 Camaro Bumblebee, I can use that suggestion! heheh 'Cause oh man, that one is sooo butt-ugly and there's very little room for modding. Especially in the feet... ~_~

My next projects are the 1:1 replica of the AllSpark cube, mod of Jazz and Ironhide, and most definitely Transformers cosplay for upcoming conventions in summer 2008.

Hell yeah! Nice work there! Love the transformation...

When you do the classic Camaro.. give it a thought on the tail lights. The movie design calls for the tail lights to go up with the quarter window, to form part of the "wings".

Any idea how to bring them up?

No idea just yet on 79 BB, as I'm already in the middle of chopping up my Ironhide and building a new base form for him. Transforming him a coupla times and inspecting the actual movie designs. Ironhide doesn't rotate his torso at ALL... his front bumper should stay in the front and just pull up and skew down towards the corners. That's easy to do. The legs and lower torso might be tougher, but I can do it with some hinges and improvised supports recycled from model kit parts (ALWAYS save those model scraps! hehe).

Ironhide's front tire assembly will need to be completely chopped off so instead of pivoting upward, it needs to pivot downward and around on an improvised axle as well as hold the door assembly (the doors are not mounted on the body, they're mounted on the arms). His head is also mounted too far back. That means more hole-drilling, chopping, and gluing new pieces in. Fun!

The '79 Camaro will be an adventure, I'm sure. hehe

That's gonna be a tough one! And, oh, while you're at it, any chance to reduce the size of Ironhide's head?

Yeah, voodoo magic. haha I'll probably bust out the saw and shave a few bits off here and there to sharpen him up. The BB here is just an experiment really to see how well you guys all liked it, so I'd like to really go all out on Ironhide and see how accurate I can make him without compromising on the total transformation.

I have a lot more TF-modding surprises in store, so if I'm not posting often, it's because well... I'm working on them. haha I'm here for the long term! :)

What I've always wanted to see was someone utilize the transformation mechanisms of 09 BB on a 79 BB, but that's only if there's room...

...or at least apply the tri-fold chest design, and rotate the roof panels on the backs of his legs to the insides, so the "foot" panels could fold up like 09 BB, to give room to a crab-claw foot design (that I want to design for 09 BB too, to get rid of the huge clod-hoppers that hang down in car form...)

That way, his 79 model would look more like his bad-arse angular self in the film (which is my favorite version BTW...)

Great job on this by the way...

Any chance we could see pics of the back with the roof in place?

...maybe folded up to turn into a shoulder cover
...or even paint the inside of the roof to look like machinery
...or sculpt something
...or mount a hinge in the middle, so it folds upward, against the tab below the windshield and the head cover...

I just always wanted something that covers up the hood panels behind BB's head, so it'd look less like a toy, and your roof mod gives a chance for that...

I think the roof is taken off as a separate piece during transformation.

Looks like you 'cheated' with a detachable roof top, to compromise the better looking arm panels.

But really impressive overall. I painted mine too, but only went for the easy way with dirt wash, dry brush metal look & some touch-up. While yours is very crisp and clean with fully painted metal parts, and with some scratch built parts to boot. Very nice stuff, and one of the best 08BB custom I've seen.

Would be cool though if you worked on the face a little bit further. The body details are excellent, but you left most of the face & the eyes untouched, which the toy's face sculpt is not that accurate to begin with. Bumblebee still get those big blue watery eyes. :D

Great custom nonetheless.
