Takara's MP Thundercracker was exactly what I was thinking of, when I mentioned that cartoon-coloration was not always the best choice for a real-world action-figure. As much as I care for the G1 cartoon, the beloved old series was often drawn & colored much too inconsistently to base every detail for Masterpiece figures on.
The new MP Hot Rod appears to follow the cartoon "Pink-Rod" color-scheme, while the overall appearance, and especially the car's undercarriage, have a very G1-toy influence. Many here don't seem to like this mixture of G1-toy aesthetic being used mold/proportion-wise combined with cartoon-coloration. Perhaps the issue is it's overly square-ish bot-mode chest, and not the color itself.
Hmm, MP Shockwave's cartoon mold + cartoon colors, VS MP Hot Rod's G1-toy-ish mold proportions + cartoon coloration, makes for different & interesting new Masterpieces. I'm not sure if Hot Rod's mix of styles suits everyone, but I for one
do like it. To be honest, MP Shockwave looks
superior to Hot Rod, mold/proportion-wise in both modes, yet the color is disappointingly off-putting.
Not since Takara's 2005 re-isssue Galvatron & Henkei Cyclonus has the lavender/lilac color-scheme caused me to question buying figures that I really wanted
mold-wise for my collection. In the end, though I would have preferred a darker shade of purple for them, I bought them anyhow and do not regret getting them at all.
