Granted I should have elaborated more... the OS went berserko from a recent update and it just fails to boot. Seems stuck in a black screen loop. Gave up. lol..

Got idea to solve my data retrieval issue though.

Got idea to solve my data retrieval issue though.

Wasn't a black screen, just the normal blue background on bootup, but the problems I had at work were with Windows 7 computers running Sophos. An update Microsoft pushed out didn't agree with Sophos and caused it to get stuck on boot up.

Booted into safe mode, removed the update and all was good.

Or in the case of my work computer, just have broken Windows updates.

Yeah, I told everyone on fb then forgot to store the info in my own noggin (a surprisingly common occurrence, or not so surprising depending who you ask)

Your & Burn's computer troubles sound similar to mine. Ah well, had to upgrade to 10 at some point.
