Hey

So, I've wanted to repaint something into a vehicle version of Silverbolt for a while. I decided on DOTM Skyhammer once I noticed that his head is very similar to Silverbolt's and that I could make his feet into an adapted version of Silverbolt's talons. I also modded ROTF Bludgeon's sword to fit Skyhammer's hand.

Anyway, here's some pics! This is my first full repaint, so go easy on me

Since Silverbolt is a bit of a knight in shining armor, I decided make silver and gold my main colors. I also added metallic red highlights based on the original Silverbolt's stomach orb thing.

I modded the back left landing gear so the sword could plug in and look like it was on his belt. Didn't feel like making a scabbord.

It's hard to tell, but I actually painted his eyes gold so the details would stand out behind the visor.

Posed with sword in hand. I actually had to cut the handle in two pieces so I didn't have to mod his fingers. I was worried they would break off.

Again, it's hard to tell, but the cockpit is fully painted.

Great idea, executed with style!

Love the attention to detail - the red under the wings looks almost organic too.

If this is your first custom then I can't wait to see what you have in store for us in the future

I think it's a great idea and well executed. I really like it!

The only suggestion I have is to thin down the silver and do another coat. I can see the brush strokes and the colour underneath. A thinner second coat should fix that.

I'm assuming I'd have to use paint thinner to thin enamel paint? I've only ever used paint straight...

Yes you will. White spirit or something like that.

Oh man I love it! It makes me more sad that I still haven't been able to pick up a Skyhammer though. XD

I suggest you try to stick to the same brand of thinner as the paint you used, or at least test out the thinner with a small amount of the paint before mixing more. Different brands of thinner (especially industrial thinner) can dull the silver paint. I once used industrial thinner to thin silver paint from a Gundam marker, and it turned a dull brownish-gray.

Just my two cents' worth.
