To get back to the whole "faster than light" thing, isn't there this American scientist who's actually getting government funding to build a space ship that utilises anti-mater?
He states he has the engine, the fuel-tank and all the systems figured out, he just needs to get actual anti-mater which he wants to keep in a special tank without it touching the tank's mater.
I can't remember his name, but I saw him in a documentary about space travel. He states he gets most of his inspiration from cartoons and comics, which he "researches" between lectures he gives at a university.
The guy is nuts and a total geek, but freaking cool.

My mind is hilarious, I can remember this kind of useless info from years ago but for the life of me can't memorise school related stuff.

A couple of things:

Everything in Back to the Future would be impossible except we forget Einstein's Coolness Principle: if the subject matter is cool enough, Marty McFly can do whatever the **** he wants. Bill and Ted, Dr. Who, and the Terminators, I beleve, all work under this principle as well.

Going back to 1984 and buying a whole bunch of Transformers would probably be easy. Just go to a coin show, buy a whole bunch of era bills and coins, and you're set for currency in 1984. You can't rely on credit back then because, aside from your credit card not working, retailers would probably wonder why you have a credit card with an expiry date like 03/12. But no one's going to be wondering where you got this money as long as it doesn't go in electronically: buying a bunch of stuff from a retailer isn't going to draw attention unless it's an exorbitant amount, so just shop around. No one's watching the video cameras and, even if they got your identity, they'd think someone made an error because, hey, a kid couldn't possibly be buying all this stuff so that adult buyer isn't who we think he is. So future you would have no problem except a cool story to tell about how somebody assumed his identity for a day.

And, to stay on topic, check out the Lorentz Contraction on Google. It's the third screwball effect--along with mass dilation and time dilation--when dealing with lightspeed.

Lorentz contraction is a weird one. While I understand it, I still can't quite get my head round it.


I can remember studying time dilation, mass dilation, lorentz contraction, world lines and Einstein's clocks during my relativity module this year. Probably one of my favourite modules evar, I hope we get more next year.
