Electronic MP Gun

Postby alhaw » Fri Nov 24, 2006 5:29 pm

I loved Piranacon's electronic MP Prime so much that I had to steal his idea. I wanted my MP guns to light up without the backpack or wires, so I put the electronics inside.

I used a LEGO Exoforce kit which includes a light and a clear rubber piping that the light travels through. I butchered the light fitting and the inside of the gun until it fit and added a screw as the switch (so that I can display the piece lit up without having to hold down a button).

It took all of about 5 minutes but I'm happy with the result.

Unfortunately I had to remove the pegs that hold the two halves together in order to fit the new parts in then I had to glue it back together, so I can't open it up again. I plan on doing it to my other MP guns and maybe even a classic megs arm canon so I'll make sure I take some WIP shots then.

My question now is, won't you have to cut it up to reopen it when battery changing time comes? Don't get me wrong, I like it, I have just started to work with lights and pipings too. But to cut through super glue when you have to change the batteries will be a messy project.

Well your average LED light like that can last on a single battery for years depending on how often you click it on. It could be five years before he even has to think about that.

Now there is something Mr. Radioshack didn't tell me. Good to know. Thanks.

Leds are simply little diodes. They pull very little power and generate very little heat, but are very bright. Which is why they get sued for things like this.

sorry for reviving this thread, but what if the batteries have to be changed after a couple of years?
I"m gonna try this if there is a way to replace batteries.
