I just picked up CW Ironhide (and Prowl), and upon transforming him to alt mode, noticed that he has a strange tab in "pick up bed" part of the truck in alt mode, like a tab that something would attach to, but neither his weapon nor his "fist" can attach. I looked at the back of the cardback and noticed the photo on the packaging shows a 5mm port hole instead of a tab. So... anyone know what gives?

Stock photos of the toys are almost always of prototypes, and therefore have changes compared to the final design. That also goes for retools!

Oh, thanks! I don't think I would have noticed that slot between the fingers. Does Offroad's fist have the same slot? (I have him at home, but never noticed.)

I have that slot in my First Aid fist. And the tab is on the top of the "topper" remolded truck bed piece.

I have that slot in my First Aid fist. And the tab is on the top of the "topper" remolded truck bed piece.

Guess I got a factory fluke then. No biggie, I'm not too fond of how the parts look as weapons in either mode.

Just be glad yours has 4 wheels instead of the 3 in the pic of his bot mode

I didn't figure out how that worked UNTIL getting first aid. Thanks to the incomplete instructions not showing how it works, I never had any idea what that tab was for, but when it showed up on FA too, I looked at his hand/foot more closely until finding the slot in the fingers.

You sure? They look like they have a similar silver paint to that which leader Megatron uses.

Yeah, because the inside of the hand/foot weapons are also metallic silver - so, unless hasbro paid to have the insides painted too, then they are molded out of the same metallic plastic as nightbirds' forearms and such (you can tell on her b/c the insides of her elbows are silvery too...)

A good deal of the Combiner Wars deluxes have purposefully designed spots in the alt mode for the handfootguns to go. Some pull it off better than others, and I think some of the earlier molds don't really have as much integration. Might be mis-remembering that from my vantage point here at the office with none of these in sight though

Interesting....I just fiddled with my '84 Autobots, and while the outside shell of the hands/feet are silver (painted or molded in plastic, I cannot say as I would need to scratch them to see) the actual fingers and wrist/thumb are just molded grey plastic. No silver.

Here, from Seib's gallery, you can see the outside Silver shell, but the fingers are in grey plastic. Also, note the slot between the middle and ring finger. That's for the tab in the bed.

Because of this, I don't think Ironhide's fist fits any tighter than my Offroad.


(Too bad the pictures aren't tifs and I could have a real interesting sentence there. "Check out the fist fits tifs!" I suppose that's better than the proctological exam joke from Fletch here...)

Yeah, it's just the gauntlet that's silver, but it is actually silver plastic (nice stuff too), but I rather like that they used two plastic colors (perhaps using excess from these for bruticus...)
