I heard from some people that Prime was the chief civil minister while Megatron was the commander of the military or something like that. Then Megatron went renegade and because Prime was a civil minister he gathered mostly civilians to help him. Is this just a theory or is it supported by anything canon?

I.e. I know Megatron's title was Lord high Protector but I can't find Prime's title, if he had any.

According to Teletran 1 (I've always wanted to say that) Optimus title is Prime, and he was meant to be the civilian and spiritual leader, and they were both the stewards of the All Spark.

From what I remember, Megatron and Prime both ruled all of Cybertron. Prime was like THE ruler while Megatron was Lord High Protector. It seemed like Prime was the actual ruler, but Megatron might have been more of a military type.

I was under the impression they were both equals, I wouldn't be surprised if Prime was slightly higher.

Optimus having 'Prime' as his title makes sense, thanks for the clarification.

So Teletraan is reliable when it says Priem was the spiritual/civilian leader?

I'm sure they were equals. Prime was 'Fair', and Megatron 'Firm', so their natures complimented each other.

I would definitely not say either was higher, but perhaps Prime was in popularity.

He would probably have some trouble with being leader since they were equal, but then again it could be the supreme commander a similar role he has had but more leaning to the way transformers cybertron had it.
