Star Trek: The Next Thread
Re: Star Trek: The Next Thread
I've said this many times before. The best way to sum up DS9 is thus:
The other shows explore space. DS9 explores characters.
The other shows explore space. DS9 explores characters.

Why isn't Deep Space 9 being honored in syndication like the original series and the next generation?

A channel here in the UK has just started airing a DS9 run. They finished TNG last week and replaced it with DS9. So at least one channel is airing it.

Money............is at least a part of why we arent seeing DS9,Voyager and Enterprise in syndication like we see the original series and the next generation
I cant quote exact money figures but heres the issue. The original series and TNG are less expensive to run in syndication because the syndication contracts were written with the actors and show creators getting less money from long after cancellation syndication.

The time travel library in the episode where Spocks hooks up with that cave woman is more advanced than anything in the next generation, including the 'Q'.

The character of 'Data' is a blatant rip-off of Spock, and Riker is a rip-off of Kirk right down to his middle initial "T."

Back to DS9!
One of the worst things about that show is I have a real tough time putting characters in to my top ten favourites in the series... because nearly all the characters were awesome. Even Morn.
Additionally, if anyone's looking for a good laugh, you should check out http://the-guls-itch.tumblr.com/
It's (slightly contextually modified) quotes from Futurama's Zapp Brannigan, mashed up with images of Dukat. They are amazing.

The Original series and the Next Generation eclipse everything else. They both are still on the air in syndication. The new Star Trek movies are based off the Original series. I think the following song says it all about these two shows:

I love how every single character ended the series with massive character development. Even the guest stars got the same amount of development as the main cast. Heck, even an extra, morn, had an episode devoted to him!

Copied, hacked, stolen, plagiarized, used. They had to get the rights to the original series in order to make these movies.

wrong
it was the owner of the rights that funded the film, so no need to "get the rights"

The Original series that is being aired right now seems to have modern visual and special effects added.

Re: Star Trek: The Next Thread
I watched the Star Trek Original series episode "Where no man has gone before" and Kirk defeats two Q-like characters, psychologically and physically. His speech to the woman was epic (eg. "Be a psychiatrist, human for just one more minute!"). Spock was good too (eg. "We will be as useful to him as a bunch of mice would be to us on this ship."). Data is the poor man's Spock.

Re: Star Trek: The Next Thread
I like the Original Series the best, especially now with the special effects. The episodes have a surreal feel to them. It seems like the tone is a mixture of literature, poetry, philosophy, mysticism, and science.
The Next Generation and the iterations on felt like pure science.
Why do most people say the Next Generation is the best, and Picard is better than Kirk?
