I think this would be the easiest "hate" to fix. It could go the same route as the original Star Wars trilogy, or LoTR and The Matrix a while ago, or even The Hunger Games nowadays. Make it a 2-parter. Leave a nice cliffhanger making the people wanting more, and still get all the necessary story and action in at the same time.
God I hate the current trend in movies to split a movie when it doesn't need to. Also I agree with Burn, a fan director may not be the best choice for a major blockbuster transformers movie, a direct to DVD movie? Fine, but this scale nope.
That said if hasbro want to make direct to DVD transformers movies based on the IDW stuff the be my guest

just don't do All Hail Megatron...
