Masterpiece Plastic Edition Voltron
Well, seeing as how the $150 die cast Toynami Voltron turned into such a disaster I wonder what measures Toynami has taken to make the figure more durable. I've heard stories of Voltron figures breaking just from being on display along with the plastic used suffering symptons similar to that of GPS so I'm still on the fence with making the preorder. As hard as it is to resist $50 for a voltron there's still a fear that it's going to be super fragile like most of the Toynami stuff.
Does anyone know of any other changes made to Voltron apart from the removal of the diecast and chrome? I really like the way this figure looks, but I'd kinda like to be able to pose it every so often without having to worry about it breaking. You guys understand right?

Well, if it's anything like other Toynami and Yamato products, it'll be a Hell of a lot more durable the second time around. Those companies love using the first wave of a mold as a test market to see if things break down. Then they expect you to buy their "fixed" version later on for the same price. So I'd expect it to hold up much better than last time. Especially with the weight being reduced considerably.

And freakishly enough, it just went up as instock and for sale on BBTS.

I saw that too. I could'nt help, but laugh since I only posted this last night. I thought I still had a week before it came in.
Given Toynami's track record with "masterpiece" toys I hope this Voltron is actually decent. I'm going to be so pissed if it breaks for no apparent reason. The stories I've read about most of the Robotech figures kept me from buying them. I don't care how much they're worth. They're not any good to me unless I can handle them without fear of them breaking if I breath on them wrong.

Iron Man: Any issues with Voltron? Any weak areas that we should be aware of?

As I figured, Toynami removed almost all of the weaknesses that were prevelant in the original release. Joints are tight and the arms get a little wobbly when holding the blazing sword, but not to where they'll collapse. Only loose joint I found was Black Lion's neck. The head is a little too heavy and he enjoys looking down because of it. a quick bit of super glue in the pivot and it's tight as it can be. Very impressed for $50.

Re: Masterpiece Plastic Edition Voltron
Good to know! Is'nt it funny how the cheaper version is more "masterpiece" than the original?
Also, does anyone else find it funny that Toynami sold the die cast version for $150 while the original Voltron was reissued by Trendmasters for $30 years ago? From what I understand, they're both the same size and similar in terms of weight.
I remember my first Voltron(the reissue) took quite the beating when I was little. He was one of my favorite mechs and he's still standing. Might not be in the greatest of shape, but he still looks like he could battle Lotor.

Re: Masterpiece Plastic Edition Voltron
Hi there, would you please mind posting some pics of the inside/back of the box?
Also, does it come with the shield or just the sword?
This guy is well worth it, I just wish he was in the book-style packaging

I'll take some pics tomorrow. But I can at least tell you what it looks like. All the figures fit on the inside like the old giftsets with the foam holding them in place. Then the foam goes inside the outer box, a sheet of cardboard with cutouts and the lion names slides over top, then finally the upper lid goes on. It's a lot like those boxes you get clothes in at christmas. Except once it's all closed, this one has a handle on top.

The box is one of the reasons I'm getting it. It's simple and all the focus is on the toy without any fancy artwork while bearing a resemblance to the original Golion box.

I just wish UPS hadn't beaten the **** out of mine. I have so many dents and creases on the box that it looks like someone sat on it.

That sucks. Who did you order it from? BBTS is pretty good about making sure items arrive safe and sound, but I don't know about other companies though.

BBTS. They shipped it fine and dandy. But it really does look as if UPS kicked the living **** out of the box.

Re: Masterpiece Plastic Edition Voltron
That really sucks and now I'm worried. My Voltron is sitting in my Pile until City Commander comes in. I somehow managed to have good luck with my first HTS purchase unlike others and I hope UPS does'nt mess up my boxes I'm getting from BBTS.
