You know, I hadn't thought about there being no indication of when "Ultra Magnus" was set.

In the epilogue of Magnus, when he has captured Swindle (again), it states 29 mega cycles/years later. As Magnus is saying what he says to Prime on the comm screen in Esc #1, the Scorpinok/Nebulon incident happens 29 years before Infiltration. Which gives Scorpinok time to go to Earth and set up the Machination.

Leonardo wrote:I've been wondering what significance that little epilogue plays. Is it the beginning of the Machination? Is it a red herring and the Machination are all facsimiles controlled by the mystery robot? :-?

When this issue came out, there was a textbox in the part where they find the cassettes that says Skywatch. This had no context until Esc#5:

Skywatch are revealed to be the people who comendered the Shockwave/Dinobot excavation.

You're good. I don't think I even registered that Skywatch cap in "Soundwave"; I only remembered the Joshua Red box. I need to pay more attention to my comics.

So, are we thinking that the Machination is a body designed by Scorponok to look like a government agency, and that Skywatch is a real government agency?

Thank you. I try. :D

I rekon your right about the Machination. Although I was not getting a government vibe from them in Infiltration so I never considered them a Government Agency. Just a freelancer. Admittadly an impressive outfit, but still freelancers.

As for Skywatch, not sure if they are ligit or not. Don't have enough info on them. Yet.

Skywatch is the likely real government agency.

Going by Scorponok's MO (if the head is indeed Scorponok) then the Machination is largely a private "consortium" a la the Carlyle Group. But, given the events of Infiltration and Escalation it isnt a great leap to think that certain government agents and officials have been replaced by fascimiles to serve the purposes of the Machination the same way key government humans have been replaced by the Decepticons.

I must say that I am enjoying the overlapping story threads and different levels that are spanning through the different comics.

Regarding this theory, I read spotlight: Ultra Magnus last light and this part caught my eye : "The mutual aspect of the arrangement lasts only as long as it takes Scorponok to absorb the choicest cuts of local innovation and infrastructure. After which he carefully erases all traces of his machinations and moves on."

It may just be coincidence, but could the use of the word machination there be a hint? Also, doesn't this paragraph seem to confirm what he appears to be doing in escalation?

I think you're right about that.

They should toss in Sector 7, too, just for the intarwebnetz lulz. No, I'm joking.
