They are fine, if they aren't done in a stereotypical manner or are portrayed as a angry woman type hero, as done in Resident Evil 2-3 and Alien: Resurrection. I hated the heroes I was supposed to root for.

I AM THAT WIERD FANGIRL YOU'VE HEARD OF.

It only the entertainment world could find a happy medium.
Not super hard-core, but not a damsel in distress either...

Can we also add 'not dead behind the eyes' as a qualification? I'm okay with females and toughness, but the whole Bimbo with Big Gun, Leather Chaps, and No Emotions a la Doll House and Terminator tv series? Kinda played out already. I mean I *guess* it's okay that the female ass-whomper *has* to be ridiculously hot, but can she look like collagen injections haven't completely eaten her brain?
HK, *not* ridiculously hot. Just ridiculous.

Anyway, thanks Razor. That's nice of you.
And don't worry about the pictures. I'm sure they're great.

I'm am a woman, dork.

But some of the psycho chicks in some pop culture movies and video games are just a tad over-kill.

To other women the Macho-women are 2 things. Implausible role models or bullies.

Point being that I've heard the "Don't tell me your scared of strong women" thing used on a lot of men being accused of being sexist.
I'm not a man.
But I think I was misunderstood. Strong women rock.
I know plenty of them.
And Lara Croft is one of my all time favorite video game characters.

But there's a difference between strength and being a psychopath.
The latter I don't find flattering on either gender.
Fananga wrote:To other women the Macho-women are 2 things. Implausible role models or bullies.
Not true for me either. Nothing makes me laugh harder than seeing a woman character beat the living crap out of somebody.
Especially if it's a pompous guy or a stuck-up snobby chick.

But see these are the people that desrve the beating.
If you guys here are into Naruto, then understand that I don't like the character Sakura much.
She's one of the (physically) strongest characters on the show, but she's a whiner and constantly dishes out beatings on Naruto that he don't deserve.

WHAT!?!
Where the %$#@! did I say THAT? No, I don't what them all frickin' gay!! That'd be a flippin' nighmare!!
I'm am a total anti-yaoi/slash/yuri girl.
Especially fan-yaoi/yuri/slash. I find it insulting to characters in series if the creator did not intend for them to be that way.
My idea is that if anyone really has to have their gay love stories, go find a series where the characters are CREATED that way instead of altering existing characters to your liking.
There are plenty of them. Why don't you they like those?
I want to be cartoonist when I grow up. And I have a few series of my own in developement. And the crappy part is that I KNOW that if they ever take off, yaoi-fans from all over are going to take my guy characters and try to hook them up as gay couples.
Because they obviously have no respect for the characters that artists create because that have hopeless adictions to yaoi/yuri.
Sorry, but you hit a little nerve.
I mean REALLY!! Me a yaoi nut?
I feel at this time I must restate one of my all-time favorite sayings.
Do not assume. Because it makes an ASS out of U and ME. ASSUME.
(EDIT: Sorry for blowing my top. I wasn't really in a thoughtful mood last night.)

What do you mean know little about fandom?

It's not like I'm a homophobic or anything... they're scared of homosexual people.
If I was scared of them then I wouldn't like going to school. We've got a few of them there. And most are very nice
But why would you want to do that to someone's well thought out characters? I was saying it was disrespectful. Any abuse of the creative thought of others is disrespectful. And you obviously don't like me, so I won't assume you respect me.
But I won't start an flame fest.
It's all opinion. But I will say sorry to anyone I've offended. The great part about opinions is that you don't have to take someone else's as your own.
There are people who are just as passionate on the other side of things as me. And I wasn't in the most friendly of moods last night.
So please don't hate me for my outburst. I am sincerely sorry for angering you. *does a virtual "I am sorry" bow*

Oh, boy... yuck... *has a stomach ache at the momment*
Well, I'm not sure what to talk about from here...
We've pretty much covered everything. I think I'll join the everyone else and just kill this thread.
One quick question however. I went on Wikipedia and looked up the new movie. And on the list of Autobots, Arcee was there.
I'm not up to speed. Is she in the movie, or did someone just add that to the wiki-page? Wikipedia is not always a very reliable source.

Arcee appears in the trailer, about 0:56, as a unicycly pink thing in the left side of the screen chasing the Audi.
Anyone know who's behind her?

Re: FEMALE TRANSFORMERS????
At risk of being extraneous, I gotta say something about the dogpile on Siren Prime here. I'm a sucker for the downtrodden. It's been bugging me all day.
Here's what I was thinking, and if I may presume to restate Siren's point:
First, we all do, if we admit, get kinda upset if someone else's vision of our favorite character diverges widely from our own. I remember considerable flap about how ugly Monkeyscream was in the Bay movie, because, man, that Michael Bay is wrong! That's totally not how he looks! That's totally not how Jazz is supposed to act! I overheard two students in class today upset because Edward who is a character in that whole like STephanie Meyers _Twilight_ movie didn't look like what they thought Edward should look like. We all do it. It's not a hate crime to dislike someone else's vision. It's actually kinda close to *aesthetics*.
Second, I have to say in all honesty I'm kinda down on any sort of sexualization of the Transformers. Before Arcee, Elita-One, Black Arachnia, I hear a lot of people say, well, they're all male. Huh? Really? Based on what? Their voices? Do we ever see any, ahem, *physical* evidence of masculinity on them? If so, what episode 'cause I musta missed that one. You have no evidence that they are *male*. That is an interpretation you're going on based on boxy body type and vocal timbre. If you think body shape and vocal range are solid enough criteria, go to Bragg Boulevard in Fayetteville and try to pick out which of 'workin gals' was born female. Good luck with that.
In the 80s, we saw a rash of cartoons that tried to avoid the gender issue altogether (this is when they all had Educational Consultants, remember?) by having only 'neutral' characters, whom our culture automatically codes as 'male' the same way a little kid will think 'fire*man*' and 'police*man*'--kid isn't being sexist, he's articulating 'male' as the neutral position the same way I just unintentionally used the 'generic he'. Transformers, for one, BA (Before Arcee). Smurfs for another. My Little Pony, too. I could go on. Then Smurfs introduced Smurfette, which raised a lot of hackles among parents at the time. Prior to Smurfette, a whole bunch of smurfs living in the forest in a commune all happy together was just, well, I can't resist saying *smurfy*. Once a girl was introduced, a lot of parents had to struggle to explain how suddenly a group of guys living alone in the woods with *one* female was supposed to work. Suddenly the Smurfs became creepy. To mitigate the creepiness, they introduced two smurf kids (remember them?). That actually only made it creepier, because NOW parents had to explain where smurfbabies came from. WIth only one female Smurf. Oy!
Okay, back to Transformers. A young audience sees a bunch of non-sex differentiated things living together and it's totally cool. Kid doesn't even THINK creepy. Or sexual. It's just cool. Remember that kid him or herself hasn't hit puberty and thus probably has a pretty undifferentiated notion of his or her own sexuality. When we introduce a female, that complicates things. For one thing, if we think female we think sexual difference and thus sexual desire and I don't know about you, but I really don't want to think about exactly how or what is involved in robot sex. Call me a prude if you want, but that's not a hate crime either.
So, someone who dislikes yaoi or yuri may simply be saying they don't like to think about characters they have their own conceptions of (my two students and Edward) acting in a manner that would be inconsistent with their personal image. A gay or lesbian reader might be likewise offended by hetero relations, for the same reason. OR they may be trying to say that they just don't like thinking about robot sex, straight, gay, bisexual, bestial, sadomasochistic, High Victorian or whatever. It doesn't justify a flame war or a dogpile or public shaming. Some of us don't like to think about robot gang bangs of any variety. If you do, hey, do yo' thang, but don't lay some PC guilt trip on someone who disagrees. I don't judge you for your robot rape festivals, don't judge me for my Decepticon tea (and wanton destruction) parties.
Sorry for bringing up something some of you probably hope will go away. I feel very strongly about people on forums feeling that they're talking to friends (aren't you the least bit sad that she's so upset she's physically ill?) and I'm not a huge 'rush-to-judgment' fan (I lurked here for 3 years) or public smackdown fan.

Whoohoo!! My wish came true!!

YAY FOR ARCEE!! *does the happy dance*
Thanks for the happy news!! I shall sleep well tonight. XD
And thanks for being so understanding too. That's very nice or you.
It's just the idea of somebody defacing mine or anyone else's characters by warping them to their own specifications makes me angry.
That goes for Transformers, Sonic the Hedgehog, Bleach, Naruto, Teenage Mutant Ninja Trutles, SWAT Kats and everything else I hold near and dear to my heart.
