Hasbro versus Takara dilemma 1st Ed.

Weapon: Indepentently Targetable Particle Beam Cannons
Okay, so most of the time, when I am looking for a new addition (between any Hasbro american and Takara Henkei versions) the toss-up comes down between basic paint schemes and overall QC. Like when i picked up my classic OP I bought the Takara version from Taiwan because of the "chromed" grill and the different colors on the shoulders (the blue on the american version kinda sucked, c'mon admit it LoL).

So, for this round I have the option of picking up either the Hasbro version of Deluxe Galvatron or the Takara D-06 version...I was wondering if anyone could shed some light (or better, post some pics) if there are any significant differences in the paint scheme or overall quality on Galv.

Mucho Thanks ahead of time!

For the most part, the QC between Hasbro and Takara is pretty much even on all similar products UNLESS you're talking about Henkei Thundercracker/Skywarp, in which case try hunting down the Hasbro versions.

As for Galvatron - unless you absolutely want the guy on your shelf in some form, I would highly advise that you stay away from him. First of all it's a finiky mold that doesn't pose well (and hold the poses), it's top heavy and a pain to transform. If you really want one on your shelf, I'd suggest the Hasbro one, simply because it's cheaper. IMO that Takara Galvatron doesn't gain anything from his deco.

If you choose to believe the rumours (which I personally think is a bunch of wishes repeated often enough that they're taken as reliable), Hasbro may give us a better Galvatron in the next couple of years. But I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks for the QC info...nice to know the Takara vesions can hold up in competition on that point.

As far as "needing him on my shelf"...I guess you could say I need a "leader" figure for the decepticon half of my battlefield LoL...I have been previously avoiding the D-01 Megs (his hideous wings and re-donk-ulous gun mode kinda ruined him IMHO)..but I need to get one of the two to provide the central figure for my Decepties (yes I avoid almost all movie versions like the plague, so thats not even an option).

Additionally, Galv has the drawback that for some reason, his hands were molded "solid" (i.e. no hole for holding optional or add-on weapons)...but Megs' hands have the standard holes so he can be modded with Weaponmasters or something cool from the Perfect Effect line.

But then I saw El Duque's post about the Megs proto-pics from Toyworld...and am now drooling in anticipation of where that project is headed.

Gah...decisions, decision...

P.S. And I know this is nit-picky and might make me a little crazy, but I also like the fact that the Takara versions come in bigger box-style packaging, while most of the Hasbro Deluxes come on basic blister-packs (makes it easier to unbox for display and keep the box in the attic)...am I a nutcase? LOL!

If it's a choice between Megs or Galvy, I would definately go with Megs. You may not like his wings, but they can be removed if you have a steady hand and you're not going to transform him back and forth. As for the Giant Cannon, he's Megatron, he's allowed to have as big a gun as he wants :P

I too am excited for that 3rd Party Megatron that has been seen, but I'm not yet 100% certain he'll come to market. There's also a 3rd Party Galvatron in development too that doesn't look too bad, so there's that if you don't mind being patient.

If you decide to jump on some leader figure now, I'd suggest Megatron. I personally like his Henkei paintjob over his United paint job - it seems more detailed in my eyes.

Of course you could go for the Generation Megatron that was based off of the War for Cybertron Megatron. That in itself is a pretty darn good figure, though he is slightly smaller than Henkei/Classics Prime.

Edit: Also, you're not a nutcase for liking a type of packaging. I personally toss almost all my packages, so I could care less either way, but if it factors into your decision then yeah - follow what you think is right for your collection.

Personally I dislike the chrome placement on the Henkei version of Galvatron, but I guess that's a matter for individual taste. There's a third version of the mould you're overlooking (I guess forth if you were to count the lucky draw), the one from the Asia exclusive Hasbro 3 pack with Rodimus and Cyclonus (these two are identical to the RtS Battle in Space set aside from having tampoed faction symbols instead of rubsigns). Look it up for a comparison, radically different colours to the two main line releases and to my mind a huge improvement. Not the easiest or cheapest version to find though. I'd like to replace my Universe Galvatron with that version at some stage.

I had that version and I have to say, while it does look nicer than the Universe version and the Henkei version, it's of worse quality and just comes apart while standing on a shelf and that is if you manage to get it to stand in the first place.

Have you considered the Titanium Megatrons? There are two, the Cybertronian one, Wich has an awesome and imposing robot mode, but his tank mode is more or less just him laying down on his face. Then you have the GI Joe based one, wich while it's robot mode isn't as good, the tank mode is, well, it's a tank. It is what it is.
If your looking for an awesome Galvatron, well, it may not be your thing and WAY overpriced on the secondary market, but Energon Galvatron is a thing of pure beauty!
Just my two cents

There is still an loose Energon Galvatron sitting on the shelf of a collector shop I frequent...

It's $50, nearly bought it, until I realized the right head crest was broken :-( .

Buy it anyway, I'm sure you can find a replacement part for almost cheap.
