Seibertron's Review of Transformers Movie Preview Tomorrow!
I personally love Reno 911 and think it is a great show. But the movie is staying right on target with the original concept...

I have to admit Reno 911:Miami intrigues me a little bit too...I loved the Police Academy movies (RIP Tackleberry) and the Naked Gun Movies. I actually have Police Squad! on DVD.
I think a light-hearted action movie is exactly what they are aiming for. I always thought the G1 cartoon kind of fell into that category too. "Me Grimlock king!" Lighthearted action will play to the kids too.
Blocky alien robots were the thing in the last 50 years. Go back to Lost in Space, the Forgotten Planet, etc. Always blocky robots. THe last 10 years though we've realized that robots in reality don't need to be blocky anymore. I think the change in design reflects this realization. 10 years ago had anyone even HEARD of nanotech? not really...our most intelligent machine was Deep Blue- a giant block of plastic and circuitry. Micronization is the fad...iPods, PSP, Nintendo DS, GPS systems, laptops. Life is becoming streamlined, and the Transformers just got caught in the wake...
Back to studying preecclampsia and HELLP syndrome...

It finally happened. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Yes, I cried.

Its kind of like Basic Instinct, but not in a good way...
Goddammit, now I can't unsee it.

We're doing a comparison. Whether or not that's a good thing has yet to be determined.

Yes, a comparison of low brow comedy in movies and how they are true to the original source.

So my flight is cancelled leaving from New York to Chicago. I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing with my flight and what to do tonight before I do anything with this review. It looks like the next flight out of here is tomorrow at 8:00PM. This is going to be a fun next 30 hours. Joy!

There are a bunch of Strip Clubs around 44th Street.
Go to Joey Pisanos in Little Italy for a cannoli.
Try Original Rays Pizza (they're everywhere).

Already happened, mate. One bloke over on 2005. You could practically hear the other posters backing away slowly.
Aaanyway, there's a bit more humour and silliness about some of the scenes described than I was expecting, and that's no bad thing. Even Beast Wars had its fair share of silliness (and nobody was immune- I remember even the ever-serious Dinobot having a few slapstick moments) and far from lowering the tone it just made the whole thing that much more fun to watch. For me, a bit of lightness in the less frantic scenes will only make the all-out, window-shattering, tank-chucking giant robot action stand out better than they would if the cast were walking around with their faces tripping them the whole time.

Argh! The hotel nearest the airport just changed their rates while I was on the website from $175 a night to $599. I can't believe they can just up their rates like that because the flights were cancelled. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.

Maybe to you, sounds pretty upsetting to me. The only acceptable silliness is Sludge's eyes popping out during the battle of Autobot City. Anything is is wrong and has just spoiled the movie for me.

I think there is a HoJo on 42nd - I was like $129 when I was there a year or two ago. You can take subway to the train.

Let me assure you that you have no reason to be upset at this time. Give it a chance, watch the movie. All of the humor was appropriate. I was very thrilled with how things were handled.

Dude, sorry to hear about your flight.
I am a little surprised to hear you're more on the side of the movie Ryan. If i remember right (and that is DEFINITELY in doubt because my brain doesn't work right anymore), you were one of the more vocal detractors. Glad to hear the humor is appropriate...there was a ton of it in the old series. I mean episode two after Megs blew up the oil platform:
Huffer "There are two things I really hate"
Brawn: "WHat's that?"
Huffer "Fire and Water"
Brawn: "Boy are you in the wrong place"
Or maybe the South American chick in Ep 8(?) whoh wanted to set up BB with her convertible.
Point I'm trying to make (not to you Ryan) is that humor has always had its place in the TF's. After all, "DIe Cast construction: It's a lost art..."
It finally happened. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Yes, I cried.

Oh man, that's low. Hope you can find somewhere decent to kip, Ryan, even if it does end up being a long bench in Departures O.o

Just about anything said by Springer or Kup in the TF movie was absolute comedic brilliance. Also: "I've never seen anything this beautiful in the entire galaxy. Okay, give me the bomb." — Ultra Magnus.
I wouldn't mind if, when Ryan does finish his review, it get uploaded on a new thread or news post, because this one's getting a little long with replies and I keep having to search for it. Plus, I'm sure it'll have a lot of its own replies.

Is it black humour? The only that will work is black humour. Nothing else will suffice.
- Shin Getter Robo
It's difficult to say what will 'work' without the context of the finished article to go by, don't you think? The family adventure genre isn't exactly known for being "dark". If you're in the mood for black humour, may I recommend "Shaun of the Dead"?
