Work NOT in Progress: The REAL Classic Devastator

Postby Bed Bugs » Sun Apr 29, 2007 6:01 am

Motto: "The Bigger The Buffet, The Better!"
Weapon: Black Magic
Let me start off by saying this is just something I started thinking about in the wee hours of the morning. These are all my original figures, so I have no intention of bashing them (I'll wait to acquire duplicates).

Anyways, I think I may be interested in tips on how to build connector pieces for everything. I've read several articles about scratch-building, but I don't know what materials I would need, where I can get them, and whatnot.

I would like to say though, that Scavenger and Quickmix transform perfectly into legs, Demolishor requires little transformation, and I did nothing to the top three. :D

So until I get duplicates, or the materials to build the connectors and Devastator parts, here is my Work NOT in Progress diagram with missing parts drawn in :P :

P.S. That's my sister's puzzle table, mines a mess, so I apologize for the background.

That would be bloody awesome, not that I have any idea on how to do it, but still, I'm sure someone out there can make it happen.

I'm also working on my classics devastator made from actual die cast 1:50 construction toys. Mine won't transform so I am quite jealous of your proposed model. I'm a beginner to this bashing business but I did figure out how to make a ball and socket joint! which might be useful in making your guy articulate in the hips, shoulders, elbows & knees.

So you go to a hobby place like michael's or hobby and purchase a bag of 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch wooden balls. joanne fabrics (i know i know) has wooden balls that have holes in them this will be useful later. then you take those balls to home depot and you go to the plumbing area. go to the pvc section and find a piece that will easily fit one of these balls. using a dremel tool cut three of four slits down the side of the pvc piece. holding it with a pliers heat it with a propane torch until it gets a little soft. drop your wooden ball in there and with a towel grab the pvc piece and squeeze it around the wooden ball. then while still squeezing put your hand under cold running water. you'll get a heat sensation but it lasts like a 1 second and does not burn at all.

the pvc piece i picked has threads on one side which i can use on one end and the ball has a hole in it which i can use on the other end. it’s gonna take some figuring out.

obviously be very careful with this process and don't drink as much as I did while doing it. i'll post some pictures in a couple months when I get going on my guy. you'll probably have your dudes collected by then.

good luck and I'm sure we all would like you to keep us posted. :)

lol. I've got the same set in progress, and I know at least two people on TFans pulled it off already.

that's gonna be mega.
have you thought about getting some knock-offs to use as parts for joints etc?
less stuff you would have to make. people have also been using those "Roadbots" more frequently too.
anyhoo

You'd have to do something about the size difference between Mudflap and Demolishor.
