I dont mean to sound rude but........we've answered your question a few times already.

The Toy and the comic character were called "JETFIRE" so thats were it comes from.

The cartoon character was called "SKYFIRE".

Now the reasons they changed the cartoon characters name and desgin are a bit convoluted.

To put it shorty, Takara requested a model change because they werent allowed to use the Jetfire design when airing the cartoon in Japan and its other markets.

But like I said Takara couldnt use the likeness so the requested the characters appearance be changed.

Hasbro then chose to also change the characters name so as to not break with any "false advertising rules" since the character no longer looked like the toy.

Advertising rules were much different in the 80's.

In other words, the Jetfire toy was made first, but his show design was changed before his cartoon debut, and when he finally appeared in the cartoon, his appearance was different from his toy, and his name was also changed to Skyfire. But it was never "Jetfire" in the show, just for the toy, comic character (who also used the "Skyfire" character model), and the toy commercial.

For the love of christ christo, put the issue to rest. Toy=Jetfire, cartoon=Skyfire. The reasons are in wiki..............end of story.

Has there ever been a more controversial origin to any Transformer character/toy ever? Seriously. Everything about Jet/Skyfire (only written that way to preserve the superiority of alphabetical order, ok?) is up for argument.

No worries T-mack, It's not like i don't have the full set of Robotech novels and DVD's sitting at home. (which I do)

As for the controversy aspect, I can't thing of any that would even come near to ***fire's. the shear number of forces in play are staggering.
