Is there anything about this TRU Soundwave reissue that makes it any different from other Soundwave reissues? And if in the market for one, which should I favour?

Given that my only chance for finding one of these is online.

The main difference between the TRU reissue Soundwave and the Takara Soundwave reissue's is that Just like the Soundblaster original, the TRU reissue is capable of holding 2 casset transformers in his chest witch makes the tape deck door pretroud further outward then the Takara reissues, also the TRU reissue comes with 2 cassets ,Lazerbeek and Ravege.

...so that puts the Tru on top. Thanks man.

But how is it that the Takara reissue doesn't hold the 2 cassettes like the Tru does, if they're both taken from the same Soundblaster mold?

Because they used the Souldwave tape deck door for their Soundwave reissues.Takara has also reissued Soundblaster as well witch holds 2 cassets.....but he is colored black.
