War Within Prime Repaint

Postby Boggs6ft7 » Wed Aug 09, 2006 7:14 pm

I use the term finish loosely, any time I paint, draw, build, etc... I'm never finished, I've just stopped working on it for a while.

Here is what he started out as. Note, this isn't my picture, like an idiot I forgot to take a picture of how he started out, but this one is same as everyone elses WW Prime out of the box.

Here are pics of my repaint. I left all the red the same, but pretty much everything else got painted.

This is actually my first completed repaint (I had started on an Alt Smokescreen w/G1 Colors a long time ago and never finished)

Overall I'm pleased with the way he turned out. As time goes by, I'll go back to him and probably make other changes.

No, but maybe that is something I should look into.

I used really thinned down flat black paint and tiny brush to fill in the "lines" Let that dry, then use a mild thinner or be very very gentle with regular thinner, lightly damp a soft cloth and wipe over the where you didn't stay in the lines. Only the recessed parts will stay dark. This is the first time I ever used that process and I'm still trying to master it.

Thanks for the compliments.

Other than the pipes, face plate and the grill, it looks very good. The pipes, face plate, and grill need silver to create the best, most realistic effect. Flat grey paint in those locations just doesn?t work for Prime.

His face plate is still silver, or at least the original silver it came with. I thought about changing the pipes, but decided I liked them as is, but who knows maybe I'll paint over them in the future.

As for the grill, I've never seen a WW Prime with anything other than a red grill, but I could be wrong.

Yep, that is exactly what I mean. The grill on his abs. My point is that having those grey makes him look ?cartoony?, not real It makes them look like painted plastic, not metal. Real exhaust pipes and a real grill would either be chromed, bare metal, or, in some cases, powder coated black, which produces a high gloss finish. In Prime?s case, the grill was more chromed, and the pipes were bare metal. The best way to simulate that is drybrushed silver,or gunmetal, over black; neither of which would make the parts ?shiny?, but would make them look like metal. What makes parts look shiny is gloss paints and clear coats.

I really recomend not using black outlines for every color. The best is to get something that's a darker shade of the same color. Black looks really bad on light colors if it's meant to be a shadow. It's fine on dark colors, I guess.
