The thing is, when I post, I have to go straight to the point. Doesn't sound friendly but c'mon.

This is one time I wholeheartedly agree. I just didn't want to be that blunt about it.

I mean, we're talking about potentially ruining your children's chances at having a semblance of a normal life. School is awkward and difficult as it is, but you throw into the mix a couple of parents who can't keep their train on track in reality long enough to name their kid, and well...you have a kid who's going to have a LOT of problems.

Mr. Optimus Prime for example. Great guy, really he is. He's also a hero, and I commend him for his work in the military.

He's also pulled one of the stupidest moves I've ever seen. He not only changed his name to that of a fictional character (WHILE BEING OVER THE AGE OF 30!) which effectively changed his wife and kids names as well. Plus it made it to the news, which hit YouTube and Google, so you might as well say it hit the national news.

I don't get it. How can someone fundamentally awesome, pull a fundamentally awful move?

Don't be Mr. Optimus Prime, don't name your kids stupid things, folks.

And don't name them Escalade (Es-ka-lah-day) or something equally stupid.

Hmm. Sometimes brute force tactics *are* the only way to reach someone.

Mess with your kids' middle names as much as you want. That's the traditional place for weirdness or tributes to family. My family often uses middle names to name folks after uncles or to preserve an old maiden name. My middle name is a maiden name, my sister's middle name is an aunt's name. My brother? He got my dad's name (perhaps in a moment of panic.)

First names should bear some consideration, although there's no way to make them taunt-proof. Even a John is a toilet.

Orion is cool, especially with its possible nick 'Rion, or Ryan.
Paxton is definately middle name territory.

Also watch out for initials spelling out unfortunate combinations. P.C.P., L.S.D., O.P.P., etc.

My wife's maternal family name is Diamond. If we have kids, that's definately going to be someone's middle name.

I know a kid named Paxton and I also know someone named Orion. I think the 2 names separate are fine, but once you add them with the TF idea then you're going a little too far.

It's not a bad as "Tula Does the Hula", but you get the point.

You should seriously reconsider the name you're wanting to give to your child. As cool as it may sound, it could lead to years of torture from kids at school and a potential Columbine.

I don't know if I'd go as far as to say it could cause another Columbine, but it does show a lack of respect for the child. It shows that the child just isn't being taken seriously. (IMO)

I've learned this from personal experience. I went to school with a girl named Polly Esther (yes, kids tormented the crap out of her.) and when she complained about her name, her parents just brushed her off and told her to quit whining.

There's a serious lack of respect and reality when you want to name your child after a cartoon or toy character. Separate your real life from your collecting life and you'll be able to do just fine.
