Before I left for the gym, I phoned my local Costco (I'm in Canada), and the guy told me that Metroplex was currently $89, and was dropping in price by 30 bucks on the 10th! Long-story-short, I've been going to the gym, ladies, get at me!

NEWS CREW -

Addendum on this story: not all CostCo stores have this sale. It appears only stores in specific regions where Metroplex hasn't been selling have adopted this 49.97 promotional price.

I just got back from my local New York CostCo, and no stores in the entire Northeast have the 49.97 price - only 79.99. My store was out of stock, but I asked if the 49.97 price would be honored elsewhere in the region (there are a few that still have stock), and they said no.

So, be advised to call ahead to make sure you can indeed take advantage of what is certainly a remarkable deal - it might be too good to be true in some areas.

I knew it!! Priced to get them out the door. Funny how TRU can't do the same but maybe later perhaps. I went to a local TRU days ago and still found plenty Metro's keeping the shelf warm.

Bah, I still haven't found one at retail at any price. Walmart, Target, Kmart, TRU, nobody even has the space set aside for him.

This should have been a big Christmas stock item for all of these stores, but they're all banking on $60 BH Prime which I can't say has moved much.

Closest Costco to me within the US is 140 miles away in another state...

i was at a comic convention this weekend and a few sellers had this guy, it was the first time i saw the box in person and damn....it was huge!! i knew how big he was but seeing it in person made it much more impressive!! only wish someone had him out of the box!

I stopped by a Costco here in CA that still had Metroplex and it was regular price at $80. The supervisor looked up the item number and said it was marked as "deleted" in their system which means they will not get more so that particular store was just getting rid of their inventory early. He said that is probably a low volume store and the one I visited was high volume store so they didn't price match. He said they could only price match instant rebates.

Unfortunately, we've never had any confirmation of him being available at retail outside of Toys "R" Us. Wal*Mart didn't even have it in it's store systems awhile back. (I'm not sure if that status has changed.) Target's website has him, but it says it's only available online. KMart, no one even considered they'd carry it.

TRU is the only one with a brick & mortar presence that has carried it. Looks like they'll be the only ones, too. The rest of the retailers are all online only.

Aw, fawk it. I'm just going to buy it from BBTD in January. Even with the 40-something shipping pricetag, It will ammount to 155$. Still cheaper than TrU's regular 160$+ all taxes included, AND for a non-mute version.

After reading this I ran out to my local Costco in Carlsbad CA to see if they also had this price cut but to no avail. They still had about 12 left on the shelf priced at $79.99. I picked up two at this price back in October but wouldn't mind picking up another for this price. I'll check back this week.

You are probably right. I managed to get my leader class Optimus Prime from the revenge of the fallen series at Costco before they ran out and I managed to snag the last one in stock too!

I just called the Richmond, VA area Costco stores and discovered that there are almost no Metroplex's left in the Northeast - with the exception of the Concordville, PA Costco which has 10 left at the original $79.99 price. It would appear to me that the $49.99 price is triggered when there are only a few left in the store. Here is the info for the store in case anyone is nearby:

M-F 10:00am - 8:30pm
Sat. 9:30am - 6:00pm
Sun. 10:00am - 6:00pm

Checked all 3 Costco's in my area and none even had him in stock. Still $100 at both local Toys r Us stores thought. Sucks, I would have snagged him instantly at that price.

Know what suck more? having to buy the MUTED version at 161$ taxes included at the Canadian TrU.

I'll have no choice but to buy mine at BBTS. At least, he will talk and he will be 5$ cheaper.
