Transformers gets nominated for the 2008 MTV Movie Awards

Postby Robinson » Tue May 06, 2008 11:51 am

ComingSoon.net has posted the nominations for the 2008 MTV Movie Awards and both Transformers and Spider-Man 3 received multiple nods. And while we love that a movie like Iron Man got a nomination, "Best Summer Movie So Far" has got to be the dumbest category yet (maybe rename it "Best May 2008 Movie"?).

MTV has announced the nominations for the 2008 MTV Movie Awards. Here is the full press release:

Nerds, pirates and robots take over as MTV: Music Television today announced the nominees for the "2008 MTV Movie Awards." Dominating the pack is "Superbad" with 5 nominations followed by "Juno" with 4 nods. Also vying for the much sought-after popcorn statue is "Enchanted," "Transformers," "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" and "Knocked Up" with 3 nominations each. The 17th annual awards show will be executive produced by Emmy Award® winning producer Mark Burnett. Hosted by Mike Myers, the "2008 MTV Movie Awards" will be broadcast LIVE from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, CA on Sunday, June 1st at 8pm/7c. Performers and presenters for the "2008 MTV Movie Awards" will be announced at a later date.

"As someone who had his nose rubbed up against a locker or two, it's great to see my cinematic nerd brothers get their just rewards," said Van Toffler, President, MTV Networks Music, Logo and Films Group. "It's our audience that has made these movies huge box office hits and they've clearly spoken by nominating films with strong characters they can all relate to."

Once again, the 2008 MTV Movie Awards roll out the red carpet for another star-studded evening. Celebrities, comedic moments, and special appearances will be among the many surprises during the live show. Additionally, MTV unveils another new category, "BEST SUMMER MOVIE SO FAR" giving a nod to most recent summer blockbusters.

The destiny of the coveted golden popcorn lies in the hands of the viewers. Fans can vote by visiting MovieAwards.MTV.com before May 23rd to support their favorite nominees in each category. Fans can also go online to vote for the user-generated category, "BEST MOVIE SPOOF" where viewers have the opportunity to submit their own original movie shorts parodying films from the past year.

As previously announced, MTV has partnered with some of the most popular UGC video sites, including Photobucket, MySpace, Daily Motion, Break, Buzznet, Heavy and FunnyorDie to give anyone and everyone with a creative vision their chance to shine in a celeb-filled arena. Finalists for the "BEST MOVIE SPOOF" will be flown to Los Angeles to attend the "2008 MTV Movie Awards" where one will be crowned the winner.

The "2008 MTV Movie Awards" will be available to a potential viewing audience of more than 1.4 billion people via MTV's global network of 64 channels reaching 559.8 million households around the world as well as through syndication. In addition, its convergent programming & content will reach the entire interactive community, via more than 180 MTV digital media properties around the world.

Motto: "Eh, keep your little planet. I'll outlive it."
Weapon: Fusion-Powered Particle Blaster
BEST FIGHT
-- Tobey Maguire vs. James Franco -- Spider-Man 3 (Sony Pictures)

Which of the two fights? There's quite a bit of difference between those two scenes

also, Sweeney Todd is nominated for best villain? Did they even watch that film? A crazed murdering protagonist is still a protagonist. The villain was clearly Judge Turpin (Alan Rickman, who also landed a great role)

Awards shows never have much sense to them.

It is all about teh politics and who paid most sometimes.
The flinch in your eyes calls your bluff
Feel free to die when youve had enough
Useless cause is breaking your back
Your life will end when you attack
