Actually, Prime was shown to have a little square speaker under his faceplate in one of the late Marvel comics, after he got somewhat blowed up during the battle with Unicron. That was it. Just a little square grill to make noise come out. I always liked that idea.
Prime's face won't be a big issue to me until after I've actually seen it in action, but I agree with what a few folk have said about there being a reason why Prime always appears on promotional material with the mask in place. From the writers' comments on boards it sounds like there's a lot of discussion about the open face look right up to now, so I'm quietly keeping my fingers crossed that there's still time to make the call and quietly slip the faceplate into the renders.

I seriously dont think there is time left even if they were to decide to take the mouth out.
If you think back they said 38 hours to render a frame. so say they have to add in the face plate and it takes say 5 hours per frame
5 hours times lets say 1000 frames of prime(just a guess, could be more could be less) = 5000 hours.
54 days I believe until earliest release day, you figure the movie would have to be done at least 10 days prior to that.(most likely longer than that.
so that leaves 44 days times 24 hours in a day = 1056 hours
5000- 1056= not enough time.
Now granted I dont know the specifics but it's not that much of a stretch of imagination to see that they simply do not have enough time to go back and edit the mouth out completely.

Another thing I though about in regards to the mouth versus faceplate...
As if giving Prime a mouth was already completely illogical enough, isn't it just giving the animators more work to do? I'm no expert on the subject, but animating lips must take more time and effort than animating... well, nothing.

I really ain't fussed about this whole lips deally-o. Prime had lips in Cybertron with a battle mask that slid into place for fighting. And I accepted that guy as prime. This isn't G1, it's a whole new continuity. If it was, then yeah, I would want the faceplate. But ti's not. So it's fine.
I like the look of Prime in that shot. Shame Lebaiu or whatever his name is in the way. Ironhide's looking ready to rumble.

Actually, I think it looks pretty good! Definitely better than the assumed "baboon" shot that we got in that trailer! The face has a look of nobility. The CG artists have really thought this one out.

... I can't believe anyone's using the lips on Energon/Cybertron as a reason why the movie Prime ought to have lips. As if they didn't look ridiculous in those cartoons? And it isn't simply a matter of whether or not it's new or different. The opinion of test-screeners seems to be that the ones in the film don't look right. Even if G1 Prime in his numerous G1 incarnations had lips, that wouldn't automatically mean the ones in the film don't look rubbish.

never saw a point in giving him a mouth. Seriously, why would a robot need a mouth anyway, unless it was mimmicking the design of a human being or some other animal that had to eat food instead of just resting in a CR chamber like Prime did in G1. Personally, I always liked the idea that there was no mouth behind the faceplate...made him seem more like the robot he's supposed to be. I really see this as being one of those things like why they always have to unmask pro wrestlers that wear masks....it's like society has this thing that masks have to be done away with & what's underneath exposed. it's a shame Prime has had to suffer for people having this mentality.
.....BTW, anybody ever notice that any Prime figure(not Primal....Prime) that has ever been made with a mouth has not sold well. Hell, look at Energon Prime for example....they gave him a mouth & soon after they changed the mold to give him one. IMHO, Cybertron Prime got away with this only because he still could have his mask cover his mouth, & you could pretend he didn't have one.

Optimus looks like those comercials of all the stuff running down the street. You know the one, its a mass of cars and bikes and benches running down the road breaking apart until it turns out their was a guy inside.

I'm 26, I grew up with TF, been a fan since it started, and that looks like Prime to me.

Prime doesnt look right without his faceplace. Even Primal had half a faceplate. Ironhide looks sick but i still think he should be trailbreaker or painted red. I think they didnt paint him red because people would think doge instead of GM when they see him. Black and red would have been cool. Damn now i need to get three Ironhide toys. One to call trailbreaker, one to paint red, and one to paint red and black. I just hope in the next movie Primes faceplate get stuck and cant be repaired like Bumble bees voice box. which i still think is dumb as hell.

IT IS THE END OF THE WORLD. Prime has a mouth so he can use it to EAT BABIES.

The comic books often gave him a mouth under his faceplate, and 20th Anniversary Prime had one too. The only way this is any different is that we'll get to see it because he feels like retracting his faceplate rather than because someone has ripped his face apart. And he's still GOT one, at least... how quickly we forget the days when Optimus Prime was a tiny Sideswipe with some blue and yellow parts or when he was a red and blue Thunderclash.

The scale in that pic looks out of whack. That must be one REALLY big semi.
Damn, I was hoping you either left for good, or were eaten by wolves.

I still kinda wish it was Leader-class Prime's head on Voyager-class Prime's body. Then it'd be perfect.
Love these shots though, they look great! Man, I'm looking forward to 7/4/7. Also looking forward to the protoforms I ordered last month and the Pepsi Convoy I only just ordered yesterday.

My vote for the HOF goes to my favorite Transformer, Kup, to the Headmasters (who still need new figures that aren't just the characters without their master components) and to seibertron.com for for being the ultimate TF resource.

I agree that this movie isn't G1. The problem is that they took too much from G1 that it looks a lot like G1. Either way, I don't like what this movie represents. And, it has torn apart the fandom. We had our disagreements before. Now, it is out of hand. And, it is a JUGE shame that so many die-hard supports have been turned off. Re-design would have been good. It didn't have to be so radical that it causes this many fights.
I certainly won't head out to support it.

Sorry but (surprise) I really dislike the look, and unless Megatron has ripped Primes faceplate off, there really is no reason to have Prime's mouth (is there a mouth, it looks like there could be one very low down on his face)
The next shot has me more perplexed, I can barely pick out any great detail on Ironhide, everything seems very motion blurred, and if that is the case with all the action shots then there is going to be very little detail throughout. We know how intricate the detailing is on the models, but why go to all that effort if you are just going to motion blur it out?

Well Ironhide is motion blurred cos that's a still from film, of course he is going to be blurred:
There are plenty of shots where you can see the detail out there:

As for scale of Prime, well it is a telephoto shot, objects in the background will appear bigger.
