Honestly I could care less if the retail stores have knowledgeable people working there. I don't like to talk to employees, I perfer using self checkout.

My ideal WalMart is one where no one talks to me, the shelves are freshly stocked every night with isles and isles of self checkouts.

I'd be in heaven.

Congratulations. You make nearly DOUBLE what most retail workers do, hence paying for your knowledge.

At that rate of pay, either you were an expert before you were hired(because you were already previously interested in the product most likely), or you've been working there for a long time. Either of which would explain your knowledge, something an entry level stock monkey at Walmart wouldn't have.

The fact of the matter is that you are NOT the norm, and never will be. It's great that you take pride in your product for whatever reason, but expecting Joey Randomkid who's working a summer job for $6 an hour to earn up money for a piece of **** car to know as much as you is, again, ridiculous.

$6 an hour? Isn't minimum wage more than that? Walmart has got to be starting people these days at atleast 7 and change. :-( I'm curious now, anyone know?

I think the federal minimum is $5.15, and most states have state minimums in the $6-$7 an hour range, although 14 or 15 have laws where state minimum = federal minimum and a handful don't have state minimums at all. Then there are a few states like Oregon and California, where the minimum is between $7 and $8, but the cost of living tends to be higher in these areas and a 1 bedroom apartment rent goes for well over $1000 a month.

http://www.dol.gov/esa/minwage/america.htm#Michigan

If that website is correct, it's $6.95/Hour.

EDIT: I was looking at Michigan (I post way to much in the Michigan thread!)

That website does have the listings for all states though.

Yah, to confirm, Wiki provides a list as well.

If a bill gets reconciled between the US houses and is signed by Bush, the national min wage will change to $5.85 immidiately with an increase to $7.25 by March 2009.

Here in Minnesota, I don't know of any jobs, outside of say a Comic Book clerk or perhaps a gas station clerk who makes minimum wage. I think the starting wage at McDonalds (at least advertised on their wanted posters) is $8 or more. I would guess Walmart is also in that neighborhood around here.

And I'm betting this will change from state to state. The market does drive a lot of these numbers.
