Here is a theory:

It appears that the Classics Jetfire is still pretty popular, based on demand. Hasbro would be pleased to take in some of that revenue, thus a new Jetfire. Make this one bigger, and more people will buy it rather than if it were just another voyager. They are making this one as close to the toy as possible without a copy right infringement. It pleases (not everyone, but enough) people who really want the Valkyrie updated. As close to the Valkyrie as possible without any problems. The jet form they can use, but not the Robotech robot. So they probably figure if you want a Jetfire Valkyrie you will buy it. And if you want a G1 Jetfire you will also buy it. Lots of sales. Lots of pretty happy fans. Then, two years from now or so, they (Takara) will make a MP Jetfire who will have a cartoon accurate jet mode and cartoon accurate robot mode. Double the sales from those of us who will buy both, the leader class and the Mp, and 100% happy fans who want a cartoon jet Jetfire.

then i beg you to PLEASE show me an example of hasbro producing a G1 accurate classics/universe/RTS/generations figure.. you won't find one, because there isn't one.. i'll say it again.. this isn't a masterpiece figure.. it's not going to be completely G1 accurate.. it's going to be an updated version of jetfire. it changes aesthetics.. but it hasn't changed its track record.. every G1 updated character gets updated.. comic characters, beast wars characters, and game characters will be accurate since there's never been any versions of those produced as toys.. whereas with G1 characters, there are already G1 toys.

I know everyone's all excited, but I'm kind of skeptical. It looks kind of unofficial to me, like a 3rd Party offering. I'm also trying to figure out why HasTak would be making this now. Jetfire isn't really relevant in any fiction at the moment.

Well, this washes the horrid taste of Generations Voyager Hurl right out of my mouth. Good to see Hasbro still cares to make fantastic figures higher than Deluxe Class.

Ebay listings are the new way forward for reveals these days, no more dodgy silhouettes, no more workbench customs, no shapeways test print, just a full on worldwide auction website page!

This will be a good chuckle if it turns out to be a 3rd Party reveal, or even better, a build up to April Fools Day!

If it's size is a true Leader class, and it has all the trimmings, I AM IN.

This is really cool. It is kind of like an alternative universe. I suppose fictionally it is an alternative universe. But it is interesting when it wasn't done purely to have an alternate universe. It was a different approach for necessary reasons. It is interesting to see how things could have been significantly different and to see the foundation that G1 laid down for the franchise.

Closest case I can think of was when Prime RID Weaponizers Optimus Prime was remolded into Platinum Edition Ultra Magnus. But, while Weaponizers technically weren't Leaders, they were the closest thing to them in the Prime line.

Trailbreaker, Hoist, Metroplex, Sandstorm, Chop Shop, and arguably Legends Megatron and Legends Starscream.

Well, both Blitzwing and Doubledealer got made despite neither being that relevant as of later too. And Rhinox.

They can just write him into Dark Cybertron like Tankor, Waspinator, Raptrap, Crosscut, the Fembots, Scoop, Mini cons.

They'll make him relevant! or at least give him a panel

G1 Jetfire was a 3rd-party figure; it didn't look "official" either.

Also, the figure comes first, and then the fiction supports the figure, so the fact that Jetfire isn't relevant in any fiction AT THE MOMENT is meaningless. Once they're ready to launch the figure, they'll find a way to work it into the fiction, as they've done for 30 years now.

I feel like this is leading up to a Classics Generations styled OPtimus Prime with trailer ... and that will be the icing on the cake for the 30th line.

I would say, classics Starscream is pretty damned G1 accurate to be fair, both alt mode and bot mode are almost identical to his onscreen presentation.

That would be truly amazing. I hope it would do as much as MP-10 does right scaled down to be the crown jewel of our Classics collections.

Therein lies my prime concern(no pun intended). Looking at how compromise-y a lot of the new designs are coming out of generations, I'm worried that a new OP would fall to the same fate, and I'm in no mood to swallow that kind of nonsense with the big red. IDW all the way or bust!

I'm torn on that theory... on one hand, it would justify me getting the Leader Megatron as well as Jetfire. On the other, I just bought the Classics Voyager I've been looking for for the past seven years for fifty bucks less than a year ago, so unless Megatron absolutely wows me like Jetfire did, then I'll just stick with my Classics Voyagers.

I'm sure he will be a tank, but will it be a perfect G1 look, or a hybrid of IDW and G1? This may be the last G1 inspired Megatron release Hasbro ever does in a close to MP scale....

I doubt they will import the gun version.... I'd be fine with that if this tank Megs is a perfect g1 representation in bot mode.

How would a hybrid of idw and G1 work? idw Megatron is a G1 Megatron and most of his bodies have been heavily G1 inspired.
But yea, I agree, this is going to be a special set of 3 Leaders, that is if Optimus and Megatron are also G1 like Skyfire here, they could still be from different series to commemorate the 30th anniversary.

I would love a Prime Megatron done as good as this though now that I think about it.

Yup this is how you get my money Hasbro. Now get us a voyager Prime(flatnose!!!) with no kibble and some kind of gimmick(trailer/matrix) and some more Decepticons that are bigger than a deluxe size. Come on thrilling 30!!!

Still thinking who they could remold Jetfire into. I'm still hoping on Sabre. The false cockpit chest means they could do a small remold so it looked like Saber more, too. Jet mode is perfect for it already.

I might pick this up for my G1 display. Jetfire is cool, but I'm a big Macross fan and sometimes all I see is Skull-1 in Rick Hunter colours.

Why would you be seeing Skull-1 in Rick Hunter colours if you're a Macross fan? Shouldn't you be seeing a VF-1S in Hikaru Ichijo colors? Which did happen, in the DYRL film.

Or did you mean you're a Robotech fan seeing Skull-1 in Rick's colors? But then that doesn't make sense. While Jetfire's color scheme was similar to Rick's VF-1J, when Rick took over flying Skull-1, he didn't change the color of it. So Skull-1 in Rick's colors (and Hikaru's, in the original television version of Macross) is identical to Skull-1 in Roy's colors.
