The Energon Pub

Tokyo Toy Show is taking place this weekend and we're getting a few little tidbits in from Japanese fans. Multiple tweets from fans are saying Takara Tomy announced Masterpiece Beast Wars Rhinox at the show, teasing attendants with an image of one of his saw gatling guns. Photos weren't allowed and no more information was given, but this should be exciting news for Beast Wars fans who thought the line was no longer in production. Yes! I’m glad the regular MP line seems to be picking back up again after the Trainbots (as cool as they are). This really gives me hope of a MP Rattrap, maybe even Airazor, especially with her prominent role in ROTB.

There’s still a few classic G1 guys to go though. I will continue to hold out hope for a Jazz despite Porsche being weird about it.

I was half expecting MP Tarantulas to be the next announcement, following Tigatron. Getting the palette swap characters out of the way. But my favourite Maximal is a happy compromise.

Funny to consider, prior to Kingdom and ROTB, MP Airazor would likely have been a shelfwarmer otherwise. People tend to forget how much of a non-entity she was in the first season. She might even get pushed up in the release schedule as a result.

That too. I've mentioned before it is a really odd omission how few Bird Bots are in the Beast Era. You would have thought, much like the abundance of Bug Bots on the Predacon side. The sheer variety of Birds would have filled out the Maximal Flier ranks. Then again, I still wonder why we never got a Hippo Bot, retooled from Rhinox.

Can't say it does not pique my interest. I'm sure it will be a $200 figure at least though.

Guess will have to start putting aside some money for it. Can't leave my MP maximals without Rhinox.

And that leaves Ratrap and Airrazor as the last season 1 Maximals left to be done.

Kind of want an MP Waspinator though. Megs is pretty lonely.

Yup.

It's one of the reasons I would have preferred MP Tarantulas before Blackarachnia. The main pilot cast, first. Before the added Season one characters.

She might be more popular in Japan than Tarantulas is. Her Japanese voice actress also keeps coming back to play roles based on her in later series and movies.

For instance, her Japanese voice actress will be doing the voice of Nightbird in ROTB, alongside other returning Japanese Beast Wars voice actors for that movie's Japanese dub.

I still don't get the appeal of BA? She was interesting in Season One. But that evaporated as soon as Silverbolt came into the picture.
The distinction between the groups as they have been released so far though. Exhibits the bias the Japanese market already has towards the heroes over the villains. Whereas if they kept it even - one of each - we'd have had a good selection of Maximals and Predacons. The issue now is the remaining Season One cast is front loaded:

Rhinox
Rattrap
Airazor

Terrorsaur
Waspinator
Tarantulas
Scorponok
Inferno

Hopefully when Rhinox drops, that will mark the end of further delays for the line's completion.
