To bring up a question I know other people have asked:

Where the hell are the Pretender Monsters? We all know Hasbro was considering them for a while then nothing.

They're the only G1 combiner team that hasn't been touched yet. They don't even have to be Pretenders.

They could've been an easy set of redecos/retools. What happened?

Dinoking, road ceasar and Landcross would like a word about Monstructor being the only combiner left to revisit (yes, I know one is a repaint but still) to say nothing of all the micromaster combiners.

PotP only running for one year is part of what happened, with regards to Monstructor. Or it could have been that they didn't want to do another iffy update like CW Liokaiser.

Wildfly/Yokuryu did make it into Cutthroat's mold as shown at NYCC 2017:


And Bristleback/Doryu's weapon was made for Snarl as shown at HasCon 2017:


What probably happened was that they were considered too similar to their parent molds, plus Slog and Birdbrain... who would have been the torso outside of a Hun-Gurrr headswap?

A Grimlock headswap? Considering we never saw his (to my knowledge), and Hun-Gurrr's headswap/moldmate was seen to be Snaptrap/Turtler even before the Takara Selects release brought in further new tooling.

When Hun-Gurrr was first shown, the slide actually showed a prototype/production sample with the wrong head sculpt that had been hastily covered by a shopped-in logo: I don't remember it ever being proven that it was Snaptrap's head though, I think that was just speculation unless I'm misremembering.

Only Speculation I remember about Hun-Grrr's head was that it was supposed to be IDW Strafe since she was a two headed Dinobot around that time. Would have made for an interesting Volocitron alternate torso if it had happened.

This is more of an "I wish Hasbro hadn't canceled it" but I would have loved it if we got Armada Hotshot in G1 Smokescreen colors. They could have done Prowl and Bluestreak while they were at it. But only Smokey was planned.

This one was on my wish list way back when we were getting actual figures from that game, until someone pointed out that Cloud Shockwave is a pretty good substitute.

Slugfest and Overkill



No one does anything with them. The latter had a botcon/universe redeco in 2007/08. But in terms of fiction, they are in the background, at the most. If Soundwave typically only appears with the six most popular Cassettes (Ravage, Laserbeak, Ratbat, Rumble, Frenzy and sometimes, Buzzsaw). Then how about doing something new with the others?

How about extensive Beast Wars retools? Instead of making Overkill a different shade of Grimlock. Retool the TM Megatron mold exclusively for him. Applying any Stegosaurus bot from the Franchise to reappropriate for Slugfest. Then, when they have unique forms to them. Adding them into other media should be easier.

Powermaster Prime is the only design I've ever liked for him. So this Animated version does also scratch that itch.

You know what would be neat? Targetmasters big enough to use as play guns or Headmasters that turn into wearable helmets.

Galvatron and Sixshot (who this site lacks a gallery for) also work. And Galvatron is much more obtainable than Megatron.

If you go 3P, there's tons of OG gun characters and bots. Like the 3$ dollar store "Nerformers" and that stupid huge sniper rifle from AliExpress.

POwer Rangers Mystic Force also has something similar that,with the zords becoming a fragon before becoming a robot.

Skip to 1:47 to see the dragon transformation,then the robot comes later.

Come to think of it, aside from Devastator and Predaking (and that...attempt with Liokaiser), most combiners outside the Scramble City format are either completely new or left aside. A real pity.

I'd especially like new Micromaster Sixteams; that concept of combining the kibble into a vehicle for that a component can actually ride sounds interesting. Oh, they could even remake it into a Weaponizer drone! Or is the scale too prohibitive?

Yeah, there's a whole bunch of Cassetes that need more attention. Especially the combiners and the non-humanoid Autobots.

Huh, I forgot about that one. Then again, aside from Wild Force I never really followed any Power Rangers media. My thought process was mostly around combining G1 Predaking, Prime Predaking, Cyberverse Volcanicus and the cancelled Anibots.

By the way, how long do you think it'll be before we see a Power Rangers Collaborative?

It wouldn't be the first time

Someone did STLs of Marauder Megs and put them on Cults3D if that helps. Not an official thing, and requires painting and assembly, but it's something. And it wouldn't be at risk of being G1ized like Legacy Bulkhead

Honestly, I'd like to see them done as Mega-Pretender Monsters - have their outer shells also transform, and (ideally) also combine into a horrible mishmash nightmare. Call it Egregore or something.
