The script regarding the creation of Unicron's charges was bordering on pathetic. the movie itself is absolutely riddled with animation and continuity errors, so lets just leave that one right alone.
The movie was released in Japan in August of 1989, unlike the US. The Japanese disregarded the 4th season and proceeded with their own take on the continuity. So, yes, it is entirely plausible for the Japanese to have these and other dead in the US characters featured. Watching Wheeljack, Minerva and Perceptor working away on Ginrai hurt my head thinking about it too.
That is all true. However, I was using those choice points to show him that if he wanted to bicker about an animated error getting a Masterpiece spin-off... Then he might as well bicker about every other aspect that was allowed. But thanks for the additional stuff, even though The Rebirth is the exact reason why I will not collect any vintage U.S. Hasbro pieces anytime soon.
Besides that, it was not even animated by Toei - They worked on a good chunk of the first two seasons, the movie, less on season 3, and were hired by Takara to work on their stuff while Hasbro chose a cheaper company to do The Rebirth.
And also, when it comes to the movie, TV Magazine did give some info about the events while dubbing it "The Unicron War." And that was due to some issues that prevented the movie to debut in 1987. But this is a different subject.
Thing is that the only explanation for Wheeljack's return is that his body was not with the others when Zombie Convoy made his appearance. Which means that between Headmasters and Victory, his body was recovered and those who specialized in even bringing Convoy back were able to do the same for him.
But Takara Tomy may never say if that is the case, as they don't always give us the full story.
