But, the Hasbro one looks more gritty and war-torn, like he's just come out from a harsh battle.
This one looks more like Grimlock just rolled off the assembly line, all shiny and new, which is a bit less-fitting for the character's down and dirty style.

Seriously, is there any figure Takara can't make awesome? The Takara Combaticons went from being "meh, OK" to being legitimately amazing, the Takara WFC Optimus was made a billion times better with dat shiny paintjob, and now we have this masterpiece...
I reckon these guys could even make G1 Ironhide look cool.

Except for when Onslaught is transformed into his Bruticus torso mode, which is less game-accurate (from the neck down) than the SDCC version for the sole reason that it is physically impossible for Takara Onslaught's blue color to magically change into gray and back.xyl360 wrote:Tell me about it . Once I got those TG Combaticons in hand and compared them side by side with all the other versions, particularly the 'exclusive' SDCC version, it really made me feel dumb for having shelled out as much money as I did to get the 'accurate' version off of ebay for rape prices. Takara's is not only accurate to the game (even more so in the case of Onslaught),

I say this since the parts of Bruticus's torso that Onslaught comprises are colored gray in the game, while these same parts are instead colored blue when Onslaught is him his non-combined forms.
But it's understandable why neither Hasbro nor Takara could make this work and thus needed to compromise the way they each did, since neither of them know how to make toys with magic color changing powers that are entirely dependent upon which mode(s) the toys are in.
My guess is it's cuz G1 Bruticus had a silver torso thanks to his attachable/detachable chestplate, which was a feature Hasbro wanted to avoid with these new toys.xyl360 wrote:Kidding, yeah, I know, it's only accurate in bot mode. I'm still unsure why the game devs did it like that.
