I've been rearranging figures here lately and realized this. My G1 Devastator with all the CrazyDevy upgrades that are currently available seems like a better choice for my Neo-Classics shelf than the official Classics Devastator. He's pretty much screen accurate now with lots of articulation. Articulation that will only increase when the next upgrade ships. Obviously he would fail if disassembled into the individual Constructicons, but as Devastator he outclasses the Energon repaint. Now I kind of want to get another G1 Devastator so I can have one original version on my G1 shelf and one upgraded version on my Neo-Classics shelf. I'm hopeful the same will hold true for Predaking when all his upgrades are done especially with the reissue coming out later this year.

If I got the CrazyDevy Upgrades, sure. But as it stands there is nothing wrong with the Classics one in my eyes.

Classics wins on this one for me. G1 is exactly that. The Energon Dev is IMO the best of the three and gets the best posability with slight fiddling. Now if FansPojects were to add to him, man I'd flip my lid. That'd be great. All the Crazy Devy stuff looks great in my G1 display and that's where that iteration of him will stay.

Yeup, once I had most of the upgrades (waiting to ship the head piece from BBTS's POL) I placed him with my Ultimate/Neo TF collection...but since I have G2 yellow Devy and after Botcon, he has since moved over to with the G2 guys and gave Megs the finger. ;)

There is no debate, G1 Devastator plus CrazyDevy upgrades is the definitive Devastator. Anyone who likes Classics Devastator needs to get their eyes checked. The thing is an abomination. No upgrade kit can fix that.

90% of the time I will say that each person has their own tastes, but in this instance I just can't do it.

I must agree. Energon Devastator is easily the worst of the three combiners and would be virtually impossible to be upgraded, even by FP.

Of the three E-Combiners Devy is actually my favorite. With a little bit of fiddling he has working elbows, which is a giant plus in my book. I have to agree about his limitations in terms of upgrades though. Even if he got the treatment Bruticus is getting from FansProject with the new limbs I still don't think he would really capture the G1 vibe. I would loved to be proven wrong though.

For me, it's partially the problem with the individual molds too. Two of them are lazy and don't have 'arms', instead the central robot has a huge shovel and the two cranes have their cranes. I mean come on!

It's also that Devastator can't look left. :P

No.

Admittedly I don't even own said upgrades, but all I have to put them on would be an old Easter special KO devy that never held up in the first place, so why polish a turd? Even if I did, he'd still be G1 because the upgrades only make the gestalt form poseable. That's nice and all but it still doesn't change the fact that the individual robots would all still look like bricks along side my classics, which is how I would display them since it fills the ever limited numbers in the Decepticon ranks.

Sorry, but to me the choice between a team of 6 small, un-poseable robots that combine into an excellent gestalt and 5 passably poseable robots that combine into a passably poseable gestalt... well I go for the best of both worlds.

I said poseable quite a lot, didn't I?

Poseably, but who's counting? Ehh? A bit of a stretch? Yeah okay.

Anywho, I can't say I own the upgrade set since I don't have a G1 Devy. I DO however have a yellow and orange G2 Devy, and I'm really hoping they choose one colour and stick with it for the G2 set before I start buying anything. I don't want to cave in and start buying before they get on the secondary market for thrice the price, only to have two partially-articulated gestalts. personally, I'd prefer the yellow version. Mine is a bit loose and could use a tune-up, and I know most people have the yellow version and'd rather buy that.

As for FP, I'm really hoping they'll give it a shot, and I really hope that it's their own take on it. I agree, the Classics/Energon mold is too different from the original, mainly because G1 Devy wasn't a scramble-city type combiner, thus throwing off the aesthetic when it became one in Energon. That being said, it gives FP room to flex their creative muscle and maybe give us something even better!

Now if they could just figure out how to do a Computron I'd be set :3

Still no.

I like to change up my displays between full combined mode and individual robots for the sake of giving the d-cons greater numbers. That won't work with an updated G1 Devy. On the note of the G2 Devy though, I might be more inclined to own that since G2 is where I started and I actually hold more nostalgic value for that than I do G1... I know, that's pretty sad. Plus I may still have a chance get ahold of one loose for a decent price around here, but I'm not holding my breath.

And now it seems my KO Bonecrusher's leg just snapped off, so that's it for that.

Now that I've gotten the arm upgrades from CrazyDevy I can absolutely say that he's my Classics Devestator. A bit smaller than RotF Bruticus, sadly, but even so.

One disappointing thing is that the arm upgrades latch on so tightly to the arms that they just can't be removed without really risking breaking the upgrades. At least on mine. I never really planned to ever set up my banded-up vintige Constructicons on their own, but the lack of ability to do so (on the two arms anyhow) is kinda annoying.

Still, the TF movie and all his G1 appearances sold Devestator to me as a kid and now I finally have one worth it's salt. Gotta wonder if CD is through with it now...

The next set with the waist mounting plate that gives him a waist swivel should give him a little more height as well.

I know about that. But he's substancially shorter the RotF Bruticus; I don't think it'll help. Especially after the FP upgrades.

Does that mean Bruticus is significantly taller than Universe Superion? I have Superion assembled with the fansproject upgrades standing next to my G1 devy without upgrades and Superion is maybe an inch taller. With the Crazy Devy upgrades (which are sitting in my pile of loot) he should be equal to Superion's height. With the waist attachment coming out soon, he'll be a little taller.

I haven't assembled Bruticus because I don't want that hideous thing on my shelf yet until the upgrades get here.

I guess Bruticus is the tallest.

Yeah, Crazy Devy stands at about the same height as RotF Superion, howveer, my Superion has the FP upgrades, so he isn't standing perfectly straight.
