For me, only 00 Qan[T] looks nice. The other three look to bulked up with weapons and really non-Gundam.

Oh, wow, I totally agree. The Qan[T] has a nice asymmetrical look going on with what looks like a binder on the left shoulder. The other Mobile Suits look too chunky, though. The armament components are too obtrusive. I hope they're just upgrade parts for a big fight or something.

The Qan[T] design has a very Hi-Nu and Astray Blue Frame vibe to it with the mainly white and blue colour scheme. The presence of Fangs/Funnels really remind me of the Hi-Nu too.

I just re-watched the teaser for the 00 movie and noticed a couple of things. The Harute seems to have a clear blue visor over the upper half of its face. I wonder what it's for if it's not just a cosmetic design point. I like how the Raphael has GN cannons that are detachable and seem to be tethered by cables.

Haha, totally get what you're saying Convo.

I'll probably take back everything bad I say about these once the movie and the model kits come out... yet for some reason the suits from 00 and 00 S2 are more appealing to me. And I'm still pumped for a 00 Seven Sword 1/144 kit.

Hehe, I love chunky designs but even I have to say that the weapon components of the Zabanya, Harute, and Raphael look too bulky and stick out a bit too much, at least in the B&W turnarounds of the new suits.

On the other hand, I saw the components in the teaser trailer and in motion they don't look bad at all. I guess we'll have to wait and see how things go in the movie. :)

The Celestial Being Mobile Suits in the movie are definitely neat but I also like the season 1 and 2 suits more.

Wow, this is just too cool.

The MG GN-X looks very sharp. I definitely would like to purchase a kit.

The Seven Sword/G is looking great. The GN Buster Sword is awesome but I wonder how well the model will deal with holding it for posing. The clear plastic used for the Seven Sword system prototype parts give me false hope that we'll get a bunch of clear plastic for those accessories.

The Astray Mirage Frame Second Issue's design is neat but the purple and pink colour scheme is too much for my eyes, hehe.

The MG Astray Red Frame Kai...wow. It seems like it'll come with a Tactical Arms unit that converts into a bow! That's just too cool. I'm guessing the two katanas it has are the Gerbera Straight and Tiger Pierce. I love the look of more angular components like the shin armour.

And the HGUC Geara Zulu...my most anticipated model kit of this bunch. I'm a big fan of mass production units and I really like the GZ. It's a sleeker Zaku II and Geara Doga. The level of detail in the sculpt looks very impressive and the range of articulation looks very good. It has a nice batch of accessories too. I think it'll be a great model for display.

I'm really excited about Gundam Unicorn's animation debut so I'm going to try to keep up with the HGUC models. I'd like to also see if anyone has translated the light novels.

I really liked the design for the GN-X. 00 Had a lot of really nice designs, actually, probably some of my favorite MS designs. However, I HATED how they pronounced it "Jinx" in the dub. They took an awesome mech, and then give it a name more appropriate for a cat.

GN-X is pronounced "jinx" in the original voice overs by the Japanese seiyu. Maybe it just sounds better with a Japanese accent, hehe.

I prefer the GN-X over the GN-XIII because of the torso binders and longer hip binders. I'm glad Bandai went with the GN-X for the MG line, though I foresee a GN-XIII in MG form in the future.

I really like the Tactical Arms bow with the MG Astray Red Frame Kai. It's not a daikyu but the bow adds to the samurai vibe that the ARF has with the katanas. If Bandai milks the ARF more in the future, they should add a yari to continue the samurai theme.

I'd like to get one of the Mirage Frames...the Second Issue version looks very neat with its beast alt mode.

The Nebula Blitz looks very cool. I was planning to get the Blitz at some point but the NB has those wings from the Gold Frame Amatsu, which look neat.

Setsuna + Feldt all the way, by the way. :D

Well I got my first 1/100 master grade gundam for christmas eve maybe someone can tell me a little about this figure since I didn't watch much of the earlier gundam series. O.k. it is a MS-07B GOUF, it looks pretty amazing at least as for as the picture on the box and inside the little booklet goes.

The MS-07B Gouf is piloted by Ramba Ral, a villain from Mobile Suit Gundam, who I like as a villain even more than Char Aznable. The MS-07B Gouf is more powerful than the Zaku II and more agile but didn't see the same level of mass production like the Zaku II(at least not during the MSG TV show).

Did you get the first version of the MG Gouf or version 2.0? The MG Gouf version 2.0 was recently re-issued with some snazzy clear parts for the outer frame armour pieces of the left arm and left leg.

I was looking at the booklet and it said something about painting it so I'm wondering what type of paints and paint brushes I should use. If someone can take a picture of the paints and paint brushes as well as anything else they use for this part of model that would be great.

Unfortunately, there's no "right" answer for what types of paints and brushes you should use, shortround. It comes down to what you're comfortable with. If you've never painted models, it's going to be a learning process of basically finding out what you feel comfortable with.

Now there are some tips I would suggest. First of all, if you do plan on using brushes exclusively, I suggest you invest in good quality brushes. Don't buy the cheap hobby paint brushes that have coarse bristles/hairs. Spend a few dollars extra for sable or synthetic hair brushes. Here's an example of a basic set of decent quality model brushes made by Tamiya:

http://www.hlj.com/product/TAM87067

This is a good set because it includes three different types and sizes of brush heads for varying paint application needs. I bought a set of 3 synthetic hair brushes at a local hobby and crafts store for $6 and they work just fine. So the Tamiya brush set is just an example. I suggest buying supplies locally when you can.

Then there's the consideration of what type of paint to use. There are three varieties: Acrylic, enamel, and lacquer.

Acrylic is a water soluble paint, which doesn't require harsh thinners like enamels and lacquers. However, acrylic paint takes a longer time to fully cure, though it dries faster than enamel and lacquer paint. Even when fully cured, acrylic paint isn't as resistant to wear and tear as enamel and lacquer paint.

Generally lacquer paint is the hardest of the three varieties of paint when fully cured but enamel paint is very durable too.

A drawback of painting by brush is that you can have brush marks show in the paint if you overwork the paint(ie. go over the same spot with paint over and over again) and/or if you don't have enough thinner in your paint mix. Acrylic, due to is quick drying time, tends to have more potential for visible brush marks. Enamel and lacquer are easier to deal with because of their slower drying times, which allows the paint to level out on the surface.

If you don't have a lot of painting experience, you may want to try acrylic paint first and see how you do with hand brushing paint. As far as what brands, I suggest checking your local hobby and craft stores to see what brands of hobby paint they carry. Testors is a common brand and it offers all three types of paint, I believe. I've heard good things about Gunze Sangyo's Mr. Color line of acrylic paints. Mr. Color Leveling Thinner is apparently a great thinner for the Mr. Color acrylic paint because it allows acrylic paint to level out more due to slowing down the drying time.

You could also apply paint via airbrush or spray paint. The former requires a significant investment in equipment but it is very useful for painting once you become proficient in airbrushing. The latter can become expensive if you rely on it for painting in the long run.
However, no one can exclusively use an airbrush or spray paint if they plan on also painting fine details on models, which require a fine tip brush.

There's also consideration for how well you want your paint work to hold up. The basic steps for a good resulting paint doesn't start with the paint. It starts with cleaning and priming the surface of the model parts. The plastic runners/gates/plates/trees/whatever-you-want-to-call-them usually have mold release/grease that is used in the molding process to allow them to separate from the molds with more ease. This grease/lubricant interferes with any kind of paint's ability to adhere to the surface you paint on. So you can clean the plastic parts with just water and a soap like dish washing detergent.

However, even with clean plastic parts, paint won't adhere that well to bare plastic. This is where priming comes in. Using a primer to coat the surface of the plastic parts gives the paint you use a surface that the paint can adhere well to. The problem with primers is that they generally come in black, white, and grey colours. This means whatever you prime with a primer will need a total repaint.

Not everyone uses primer to prime their models, though. Some people use flat clear coat like Testors Dullcote. I've tested this and basically, I used Tamiya acrylic paint on a piece of bare plastic and then the same paint on a piece of plastic that was treated with Testors Dullcote. The result was that the paint didn't coat the bare plastic evenly whereas the plastic that was treated with Dullcote provided a surface that allowed an even coating of paint with a single brush stroke.

Now I specifically mentioned using flat clear coat as an alternative to standard primer because if you use a gloss clear coat, the resulting glossy surface isn't going to hold paint that well, though it is an ideal surface for paint washes and also for water slide decal application.

The benefit of using a clear coat instead of a primer to prime a model for painting is that the clear coat doesn't change the colour of a part so if you only wanted to paint a select few parts, a clear coat won't force you to paint more than just the parts you want to paint.

I know this is a lot of information but it's honestly just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to model painting. There are some good FAQs and tutorials for Gundam model/Gunpla painting at various web sites and hobby forums. You should do a search with Google for them if you want really in-depth information.

Yeah Convotron nailed it pretty much. Just use acrylics and if you really want to finish everything off use primer.

Now onto some of the stuff that's been on my mind

-1/100 00 S2 Kits - They're fantastic. 00, Cherudim, Arios, and Seravee. I want to get them but there's always one thing that bugs me. There's not a single enemy! I know 1/100's tend to be stand-alone figures and it's nice to have the Gundam Team look like that.. but the fact that there isn't a single enemy kit bothers me slightly.

-1/114 HG Gaddess - All I have to say is wow. Not only was this my favourite MS in the cartoon, but wow the figure is freaking phenomenal. The use of the fangs which integrate into the skirt is a fantastic design. Colours are great, and the sword is wicked. The Gaddess is making me get the other A-Law Innovator MSs - Gaddessa, Garazzo and Hilling Care's Garazzo.

-1/114 HG Arios - This figure is pretty badass for me because it has so many spikes and looks lethal. Weapons on the Arios are quite nice and has great articulation. Plane mode is phenomenal and doesn't require much work to transform it.

I definitely agree with the lack of S2 enemy MS models in the 1/100 scale. Seeing as the MG GN-X is coming out soon, I'm anticipating variations of it in the near future like the GN-XIII.

Speaking of 1/100 00 enemy models, I'm hoping to see the Alvatore and Alvaaron in the future! I know it's not S2 but I love the design. It's so Hyaku-Shiki. :)

I'd love to see more enemy units in the 1/100 range, S1 or S2, because I think Bandai did such a good job with the Tieren and Over Flag, both of which I plan on picking up in the future.

The Gaddess looks very cool, especially when you can display it with a formation of fangs! It'd be neat if the GRM Gundam was produced in model form but it's more likely it'll be a Dengenki Hobby special item like the 1/144 Astraea, Rasiel, GN Sefer, and XN Raiser.

The fact that the HG Arios can transform without part swapping automatically makes it a winner in my book. I also love the design, hehe.

Now if only future model designs could possess such transformation design...I'm looking at you, HGUC ReZEL!

Hope everyone's holidays went well.

Painting and lining the Arios was hella fun. I still think it's a kit everyone needs to get. The design is fantastic.

Working on the Gaddess now. I think i'm going to have to glue in the feet because they keep falling off all the time :(

The new MG Red Astray looks sick. I cannot wait to have it. Seven Sword and Rezel also looks to be nice.

The holidays were good for me, all things considered!

How's the transformation for the Arios? Is the flight mode solid and stable?

I'm very excited about the Unicorn models coming out soon. I read news that there's going to be a new MG Unicorn kit, "OVA Ver. SP Pack", with new features like vulcan cannons in the head and improved range of articulation in the knees. The Loto looks like it's going to be tiny!

This year is starting off well with Gundam model kits. The MG GN-X is looking mighty tempting to me. :)

Arios' mobile mode is pretty sleek. Like I said earlier, transformation is nearly effortless, just one part swap with the back skirt armor and that's about it. The mode is pretty stable, looks great in a diorama or juts as a standalone.

Very nice. I think I'll be getting the HG Arios GNHW/M to get the extra bits. :)

Some new images of the 00 movie are up at Ngee Khiong. I'm disappointed that red has been put into the Qan[T] design as I liked the earlier colour scheme that was further away from the traditional RX-78-2 colours. The head of the Qan[T] looks Reborns Gundam-ish to me.

Man, I can't wait for the MG GN-X. I expect Bandai to milk the mold and we'll see the GN-X III A-Laws Type and EFS colours. It's unlikely but I'd love to see a GNX-604T Advanced GN-X retooling of the MG GN-X mold. If Bandai doesn't do it, there may be a resin conversion kit, which would still be nice.

I think it's new signature time with that picture of Quan[T]'s head. The reason the suit has red is just to show that it fits with what the Exia and 00 had, as they both had red lower chests.

And yeah.. That GN-X looks pretty sick. Looking forward to it.

I like her with that short, Lunamaria style hair. It's kinda cute.
