Buying G1 figures at SDCC

Postby kaponokeona » Fri Jun 29, 2012 6:26 pm

I am new to this forum. I have recently decided to delve into the world of G1. I have recently bought the Encore Devastator, Re-release Sideswipe and Red Alert, along with the Toys R Us exclusive Soundwave. I know that there are G1 collectors that stay away from Encore and Re-release, but personally I prefer tight joints and figures with no signs of wear. Unfortunately there are figures that can not be remade as an Encore or Re-release (Dinobots, Shockwave, and Jetfire). I would prefer buying these figures in person because I feel that you gamble with G1 figures on ebay. So my question for anyone on this forum is, will the prices at SDCC reflect those on ebay? And what are the chances of acquiring the Dinobots, Shockwave, and Jetfire in very good to good condition with a $600 budget? Thanks.

I absolutely despise pre-played toys. I have however purchased 2-3 (out of necessity) from the same seller as his descriptions have been extremely accurate.
I would assume that the prices would be a reflection of what is currently on the market. I've never attended an SDCC, but it wouldn't make much business sense to sell them at a lower value than what is currently out there. As you are more than likely aware, a smart seller would gauge the likes of BBTS, Robokingdom, TFSource, eBay etc etc to get an average-realistic price for the toys they're selling. Perhaps he might then throw an extra 15-20% extra on top to cover expenditure, but you can always haggle. That's what I do with new toys at swap/meets.
Look at the what the toys you want are selling for and go in accordingly. Personally, $600 for all 7 may be tad too low, if mint is what you're after. Don't forget Reprolabels are fantastic for restoring old factory stickers. Shop smart and Good Luck!

Hello kaponokeona. Welcome to the forums. So what part of the world do you live in? I have a Sludge that's in pretty decent shape and a Swoop. If you don't find what you want at SDCC that is to your liking, i'll give you my extras.....for the cost of shipping of course but you can have em if you want em.
Sludge is in great shape but loose in the hips (that's what she said) and Swoop has the very tippity tip of his molded in gun barrel broken off on his left wing. Plus his "landing gear" piece was broken off by a drunk half wit one night at a party, but i still have it. Either way they are both in great shape paint and chrome wise and the stickers are all there. I was happy with them in my collection for a long time till i lucked out and found some minty ones.

Nevertheless. I'm more than happy to sponsor your venture into the world of G1 collecting and send them too ya. If you like em than great....if you don't then pass em on like i'm doing now.
PM me.
