Do all PS3's have backwards compatablity issues?

I know the European PS3s aren't fully backwards compatable b/c they use software emulators instead of actual hardware, like the 360. But are the North American ones the same? I've been toying with the idea of getting a PS3. I've already got a Wii and 360, but there's just the appeal of having all 3 current gen consoles. Not mention I'll be able to play every great game ever made. So if there is any compatablity issues, forget it.

There was something about some games not looking right because of some resolution issue. It was like, some games aren't meant to run in HD, and thus looked really bad. But they came out with a patch for that I think, so that alleviated the problem.

However, whilst looking for more info, I came across this, which should be quite helpful: http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus

It'll tell you whether or not a game has any problems.

If I may expand on what you said.... Straight out of the box, yes, your PS3 will play all your old games...but they will look like crap. The emulation used makes your PS2 games appear blurry...at any resolution.

But that problem was fixed very promptly. Just connect your PS3 to the net and do a System Update, and all of your problems will be solved. Sony seems to be releasing at least 2 updates every month.

If you do decide to get one, I highly recommend picking up a Memory Card adapted, as the PlayStation 3 doesn't have a slot for your standard PlayStation(1 or 2) Memory card.

Basically this device allows you to transfer all of your old save files to a "virtual memory card" on the PS3's hard drive...effectively, and you'll never have to use the card again.

That is, unless, you want to play Guitar Hero...the SG Guitar controller won't hook up to the PS3 (no controller ports built in).

Hope this helps!

Yeah, the PS3 backwards compatibility issues will ultimately make me decide where to get a PS3 or invest $130 in another PS2 if my current PS2 breaks down on me.

Me, I'd replace the busted PS2 with a shiny new PS3. And I don't think you'll have to worry about not having rumble for much longer either. But I'll make a thread on that in a second.
