A gun is not evil, it is a tool, a tool that can also be used to protect. A person using a gun can be evil but not the gun itself. Just because a tank moves slowly that makes it suitable for a dumb persona? I don't get that. The main reason I support a tank is because it would be built like a brick s***house which would be perfect for Megatron, especially in bot mode. A flying contraption while fast and vicious would never be able to take the punishment a tank could. Megatron is all about strength and raw power to me, not zooming along at a incredible speeds. When you look at Megatron you should be running, because you know if he gets too close you're going to die.

okay guns arent evil. but they can be used for evil and they usually are. if we didnt have guns, we wouldnt fight back with guns.
Also I feel like all the bulk in robot mode fits Blitzwing or Brawl. Not Megatron. Maybe a Cybertronian tank, but an earth tank seems too powerful. I like a Leader who is balanced.
Megatron's stats are always 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 9, 10
I like the jet still, but a tank could work too.

RiD Megatron: one of his six/ten modes was a "claw".

As for whether I prefer a gun/tank/aircraft for Megatron's alt, I'd say a tank would probably be preferable. I always thought a gun mode was rather daft (probably Teletraan-1 playing joke on Megatron ) and not really that effective. As someone involved with the recent movie pointed out, it's "like Darth Vader transforming into his own light saber and having someone else wield him around." If Megatron was going to take an Earth mode, I'd say a tank would be his preferred alt; it's big, it has heavy armament, packs a heck of a punch, and can be quite quite over land. If he HAD to be an aircraft, I'd say he'd be a gun ship, like the AC-130 Spectre or an A-10 Thunderbolt II. Both care powerful punches and the A-10 can endure A LOT of damage.

I think he represents POWER most as a tank, CRUELTY as a gun, and SPEED and AGILITY as an aircraft/spaceship. I like the character best as a tank, but his spaceship alts are pretty cool.

Personally I don't find a tank's lack of speed and aerial ability to be anything out of line with Megatron's character - considering he usually has as much a frontline battle presence as Prime does, I would think he would relish the kind of up-close combat a tank provides against the Autobots.

Megatron as a jet is just retarded. Megatron as a car is retarded. Megatron as a giant head is retarded. Megatron as a dinosaur was retarded.

Megatron as a tank is ok, but a gun is still better.

Megatron as a Dragon was ok, but the tank was better and the gun even moreso.

The G1 fangirl in me says Megatron is and always will be best as a gun, but to be honest?

I have a hard time believing a being of such immense power and control would take an alt mode that relies on someone else to utilize. I really like the path the movie took with the jet alternate.

The Best Megatron alt mode I can think of is the Gun-ship form Transformers Energon. Not only was it relatively fast and could easily out run a tank but it had two gigantic cannons on it to destroy enemies. The tank drone was a nice touch too.

When people say "Megatron would be good as a jet" they don't mean a fighter jet. They are probably think of something like Energon Megs, more of a B-52 than an F-22.

The ultimate show of Megatron's power is to have a Fighter jet upper body and gigantic tank lower body. His transformation would be similar to Magmatron.

I personally like Megsie as a gun...I don't know why...but I do not like tank mode becasue it makes Megsie look like a reindeer to me...

But I do enjoy having him as a jet because I like seeing him fly around. Flyers are cool in general.

Gun mode is still a bit interesting, but not more then tank.
Though it was really neat to see him try to manipulate Sparkplug into shooting his own son. It was kind of interesting and shivery at the same time.
I wonder what it would be like to hold an alien robot who is in the form of a gun? I bet Megatron feels warm to the touch and is a slightly bit heavier then a normal gun of that make. And when he jumps out of your hand, it is probably like someone just yanking it forcefully away from you.

Actually, more like an A-10 Thunderbolt, better known as the Warthog. Meanest jet out there, man.

EDIT: A B-52 fits the bill if you consider the 'hits like several tons of bricks' factor, but if you want speed, maneuverability, versatility in a combat zone and the ability to take one heck of a beating, a Warthog's the way to go.

Every form of Megatron has been powerful regardless of alt mode and every alt mode he has had showed his power.

G1 Gun mode was one of the most powerful weapons in the first two seasons and obviously the movie when in gun mode he slaughtered Brawn and Ratchet(it was bot mode that he killed Ironhide).

G2 tank was a beast of being powerful. It made Galvatron's killing of Starscream look weak in comparisson. But that incarnation was sheer brute force and nothing more.

Beast Wars T-Rex Megs was cool and calculating but was extremely appropriate for being the powerful commander we know him to be. When he turned into a dragon and later a HEAD he basically showed he was all about being powerful and was willing to do what was needed to be ALL powerful.

RiD Megs was cool because of his multiple modes. It was like saying to all of us that it doesn't matter what he becomes he is still MEGATRON. His biggest fault was that he was too busy sitting on his ass while sending everyone else to do his dirty work.

Armada Megs was cool when he was used in tank mode. He spent most of his time in bot mode so we saw very little of him. The toy had A LOT of cool features that we didn't see in the toon.

THe same could be said about Energon Megatron. He had the coolest looking evil aircraft. Imagine seeing that in action a little more!

Cybertron Megatron was the perfect mix of all of the different versions before him. He had the car when needed, and the jet mode was awesome.

THe movie Megs finally showed what manuevers I'd want to see one of the most powerful Decepticons perform. His transforms in midair and taking Prime through the building to when he first left Hoover Dam were amazing.

I'll admit I'm a G1 fanboy but I really think Megatron should be an EXTREMELY powerful and Manueverable aircraft. Not your typical jet but something that makes you look and say THAT is Megatron. Starscream is based on speed so him being a JET makes sense, but Megatron should be powerful first and then quick in a sense.

Technically wasn't Megatron really a Tank originally anyway?

I mean War Within Megatron IS a Tank and he IS supose to be G1 Megatron BEFORE they came to Earth. That makes his alt mode on Earth a HUGE downgrade.

He could have gone from a Cybertronian tank to an Earth tank which would have been a better fit. But no he got turned into a hand gun.

Now if Shockwave had went to Earth with them and scaned the gun he'd be fine. He was allready a gun on Cybertron but at least he could fire on his own and not have someone else hold him.

Allthough that might suck for Soundwave. Mabe they should change his name to Lightwave sence he transforms into a light post. Allso while we're on the subject of Cybertronian modes. Why was Laserbeak still a casset tape on Cybertron? He looked like a flying saucer with a head in bird mode but then he turned into a casset tape. That really made no sence.
