Maybe it is time to not accept memberships from free email accounts like some other sites do.
Sucks that some idiots ruin it for everyone.

It is unfortunate and it does suck that some idiots ruin it for everyone. It's closed until I can think of a better concept than just having a free-for-all buy/sell/trade forum. It's likely that it will never return because it's about as low as it possibly gets priority-wise to me at this moment.

Or maybe you could mod the posting requirements like you can do on some forums(not sure if you can on this type as I haven't used it but you could on the forums I've owned), set it so only a select few can make a thread in Carbomya. Then those that want to sell have to appeal to someone for this right to post their threads. If you think they're alright to sell then they get given the status that allows them to start a thread in there, no one else has the button saying "new topic" available. If they post something different to what they originally asked to post then you take it down. It would then become for serious sellers, rather than everyone having a huge free-for-all.
Any help?

Here's Seibs post about it:
http://seibertron.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=21562&sid=
Too many scammers ruined it. There were a couple of bad eggs. I remember a particular member who traded with members and never held up his end of the bargain- then Homeland Security got involved... its been a total mess b/c of stuff like that. I don't blame Seibs for ending it- it just sucks that it had to happen b/c some people view TF fans as prey.

I can understand his closing of the thread.
I can understand his being tired of emails, PMs, etc.
I cannot understand why he'd attack the "gullible" in the same line as he attacks those who would exploit such a weakness in others.
It's like punishing all the kids, because the middle kid broke the neighbor's window while playing backyard baseball.
I think the "gullible" thing needs to be dropped, and is quite rude. But I'll give Seibs credit for being balls to the wall in your face about it.

I think he used gullible as in stupid. Deals that look too good to be true ARE too good to be true type of thing. I think if people used a little more sense, it might have prevented some of the incidents. Moot point now though unfortunately.

If he meant stupid, then that's even worse.
Problem is, some of the people here are teenagers, quite young in fact. Is it right to consider them gullible or stupid?
Ah well. This is a moot point, he'll think what he wants to. Can't change that.

Heres an idea. Restrict posting access in the trade forum to those with atleast 100 posts and 3 months of membership.
Those are arbitrary numbers, but I'm sure you get the idea.
I think a restriction along those lines would greatly reduce the number of scam threads and dishonest traders.

i agree with Bonger. it's not foolproof, but with at least 3 mos. of membership & a post requirement, i doubt opportunists and con artists would stay that long just to screw someone over a $20 toy.
with all due respect to Seibs, but i still think Carbombya can still happen. just a little more enforcing with the rules and more mods specifically for this forum.
Thats exactly what i was thinking! Now if we can get someone to listen to us!AlienQuiksilver wrote:I like the (X amount of months) membership requirement most of all.
Any decent post whore can get up to 100 rather quickly.
2 or 3 months of commitment, that's pretty solid.
Mate that with a post amount requirement, and those scalpers who know jack and **** about TF's would be revealed to those paying attention to their posts.

I sent Ryan a PM with the idea a little earlier. Hopefully he finds some merit in it.
